Christian Atsu

But would Atsu then be a lot more expensive if he played really well for us? I would think he would, I could see Chelsea demanding 18m if he became a focal point of the team and chipped in with goals an assists, whereas now he's still an unknown quantity and could be bought outright for less.

So it's a choice of not knowing a player and randomly splashing cash, or taking the player on board, assessing him, and paying a premium on top if he's fantastic.

I'd rather know we're signing someone who is ace permanently than throw down £10m+ on the new David Bentley.

I guess I'm saying that I think that Atsu is not a really a risk at all, I've personally seen enough of him to say he is double the player that McGeady is

That's probably why he'd cost ten times the amount we paid for Aiden, even if bought outright.

Atsu has proven absolutely nothing in the Prem - so we should loan him, pre-arrange a fee if possible and see how it goes.

Regarding the lack of loans - I just think Martinez is focusing on getting his permanent deals sorted before chasing his loans.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a few loans very late in the transfer window

You'd have to be crazy to think he would not become more expensive if he did well for us, yet you say we cant afford him now, so we couldnt afford him at all then??

Wow we're getting a £18m player on loan from Chelsea for next to nothing and you don't think it's a good idea?

you think he's worth 18m now? I dont. Transfermarkt has him valued at 6m, probably BS I know, but still far off the 18m you think he's worth today.

I've only seen him play 2-3 times, I didn't place that value on him you said he'd be worth that after a season here.

If that's the case surely we'd be mad not to loan him in for a year, there's very few £18m loan players available.

I do take your point about getting hold of class acts in any way possible. But on the other hand we signed Besic for 4m and based on the limited exposure we have had to him already looks like he could be a 15m player by the seasons end.

I wouldnt be averse to signing Atsu permanently now, but its a decision for Bill to make

Atsu is valued at around 12m.

The problem with Chelsea is that they don't need to sell. They've been taking everyone to the cleaners over the prices of their players and they would do the same with Atsu if he was a success for us. I'm glad we got Rom back but he's not worth 28m, 24m was the max and even then I thought 20m was probably fair but if a club doesn't need or want to sell and you're desperate then that's how it goes. Look at Utd this season and last, they're getting raped by everyone.

Didn't JM say they need to get rid of another foreigner?

He's the PL's 3rd highest scorer in the 2 years he's been part of it and he's barely 21! Of course he was worth what we've paid for him in todays bloated market. The kopites shelled out the same base price for 26 yr old Lallana ffs.
