Christian Atsu

At first I thought it was a silly arguement, but really i'm glad we are kicking up a fuss about it.

Odds are he won't get injured there anyway.

Yep, i think a main concern would be having a loan tied up on an injured player when we can only loan from prem as well as the wages.
Your right, odds are he won't get injured there as from what i remember of the ACN, every game is played at snails pace, like its a training match!!

I believe we are haggling over who pays for him if he knackers himself at the ACON.
I can see both sides to that one. We're being pragmatic and looking to ensure we don't get legged like we did with Traore........but equally, if we bought the player, that risk would be ours, and we're in effect 'buying' him for a season, so I can why Chelsea would dig their heels in on that point.

It also sounds like an issue that'll be resolved.

Surely that's the risk you take loaning a player and that's how Chelsea will see it.

It's not like Chelsea have to loan him, even if he insists on us if Chelsea dig their heels in he'll change his mind the closer to the close of the window it becomes. I can't imagine Bill winning this one.

Actually I can't imagine it is that. It might be as simple as who pays his wages when he's away at the ACON.

Chelsea will pay his wages regardless. The compensation of those wages are built into the loan fee, which I guess is what we're trying to haggle down. If he was to get injured at the ACON there's a chance it would be after the Jan transfer window closes, therefore making the loan slot irrelevant, but I suppose if it's before we'd be hoping to shift him out ASAP.

I'm not too bothered about Atsu specifically, as the little I saw of him at the WC is all I have to go on. But at the very least we need an impact winger of the Deulofeu type. If not Atsu then someone else. I assume they grow on trees.

Its a pretty good call by Everton imo.

Were not saying we wont pay him if he gets injured playing for us. Were saying who pays him if he gets badly injured, misses the season and returns to chelsea as thats what normally happens with long term loan deals. They return to their parent club for treatment.

We obviously dont want to get stung with another Traore. Sounds like something will be sorted out though, doesnt seem like a complete deal breaker really although you never know in these circumstances

But there's no point in fighting battles you can't win. I would like Bill to wrap this deal up so we can get him playing a bit of pre-seaon so he's good to go on the first day.

Should be the same there. Since he is ours then we should stand for the wages.

There are a lot of reasons that a deal might be dragging on. In addition to the ones I've read above I can Think of there on the top of my head:

1. Ability to end loan if Chelsea need a winger due to injuries
2. Transferfee at end of loan.
3. Ability to play cupgames (if loan is retracted he would be cuptied)
4. Minimum playtime while with us (didn't Deulofeu have such a clause?)

A few mentions of the Traore loan here and us getting poor value because of his injuries, I wonder if that has anything to do with us not loaning a single player so far?

At the start of the summer Martinez stated that the loan market would again be very important to us, and yet with only "one" more player incoming, we've yet to loan a single player.

That's a bit strange as I fully expected us to loan the full 4 again this window.

I was wondering whether the fact that we *may* have been held to ransom over the Lukaku fee has something to do with avoiding the loan market. If a player does well here, the selling club can demand the earth because know we will be desperate for him.

We haven't avoided the loan market, and we certainly were not held to randsom over the Lukaku fee. We knew from May what it'd be and we were willing to pay it.

The reason we haven't loaned anyone yet is because we literally haven't needed to. But we will get one or two in.
