Chris Long

Hard to judge in a pre season outing but his first touch and control look to be quality, if we're not bringing anyone else in up top until at least January then I expect to see more of him this season, especially in League cup games.

i knew someone would ask that question.

gueye scored a goal last season in an actual game, doesn't mean he should have been in the first team.

its why the board gets away with little investment, can you imagine Utd, Spurs, RS etc. fans asking the same if a young lad scored 1 goal in a preseason match no chance they demand investment and rightly so if you want to stay at the top.

....in the barbers today. Doesn't take long for a haircut these days, no2 all over with a tapered neck, but still time for a chat with the barber. Anyway, he asked if I was looking forward to the start of the season then said Chris Long had just been in. He said he had his goal from the weekend on his mobile and was buzzing. Said he's a regular but is never ITK about what's going on. In fact he never even knows who he's playing against next.
The Physio also comes in and says all the youngsters are like that. They come in, train and go home. I suppose it's just their job.

the goal he scored was pure class. Not arsed about the opposition or the fact he did very little else in the game - you can't score a goal like he did and not have something about you. Not saying hes gonna be the next big thing or anything but he definitely has something about him

...yep, he's got promise and the goal was a beauty. Saying that, I remember Stuart Barlow scoring a great goal v QPR but it wasn't a reflection of his all around ability. David Smallman came as the next great youngster, scored a cracker in Gwladys St and then faded into oblivion. I even witnessed Tony Hibbert scoring a worldy against Man Utd in FA Youth Cup at Gigg Lane. A great goal doesn't always reflect a great player, but lets hope in this instance it does.

I didn't say or ask 'should he be in the team', I said 'is he ready for the 1st team squad'?

I.e. One of the 18 matchday players, an option from the bench.

I'm not advocating his usage to excuse the board from spending.

Also, just because Gueye was rubbish doesn't mean Long will be. Only time will tell.
