Top post mate. I've only seen him a handful of times but I think you are spot on about Everton being very relaxed and not too concerned of he leaves in search of first team football.

Yes this is it. I would imagine they would give Chris permission and the good grace to speak to others to be honest. Football clubs are generally quite straight with young players, particularly apprentices. I imagine Long has been told he is still a bit away from the first team and may not be part of the managers immediate plans. That's fine if you are 17/18, but when you are 20 you may start to think you need first team football.

If Long goes, we will get a couple of million and most importantly a nice sell on fee of 20-25% so if he does make the grade and goes for say 10 million, we'd recoup 4-5 million in total for him, which is not a bad outlay.

Manchester United regularly let players go that they probably wouldn't have minded keeping if they received reasonable money for them. If he stays then great, but if he goes and we get a couple of million for him it pays for the academy for another year.

Have you seen him in the first team as we persevere with Kone the Crock answer no at least a 30 minute sub appearance would have been nice to judge no wonder he wants away! - we have a dads /crock army policy under RM the very policy DM was criticised for!

He may be searching for playing time because he has had none bar a minute showing not even used ahead of that crock Kone!???????

You may not like Kone and that is your right, but he is an established premiership player.
Chris Long is one of thousands of young lads trying to make a career in the game and really hasn't shown anything to force himself into the reckoning at Everton.

While at Brentford last season he was allowed back to play under 21 games at Everton even though Brentford were playing crucial matches week after week and Longs involvement diminished rather than increased..
He did score a hattrick in one game and is a player I always thought would make the grade.
His career does seem to have stalled or at least slowed and for him the best thing now is get a club where he will play every week.
Everton simply cannot keep every young player on their books afraid that he may come back to bite them at some stage.

Last season young players were released and we brought in Galloway from MK Dons.
We take in a lot of youngsters, keep on the very best and try to set up as many others to give them a chance of making a career for themselves.

In the past we end up buying some of them back - baines and Jags eg!

We can't hold on to all of our young players for six years just in case they make it. Baines and Jags might never have made it if they had stayed at Everton.

Yes but give them a first team trail forst if you tell me that a fst Chris Long is no better than a crocked Kone - I give up of course jags , and Baines would have made because class is class, but you need a chance to place I am surprised how RM talked the youth up and continues to play & buy dads army players!

Come on Joey...he does give youth a chance. Barkley, Garbutt, Galloway, Browning, Stones have been given extended opportunities and show great promise. Give it a year or 2 and add up how much they would cost in the transfer market. Stones and Barkley would already cost a fortune and that is for the reason of Martinez giving them playing time. I know they were Moyes players but we know how cagey and harsh he was on youth. Martinez has exposed them for everyone to see and that benefits Everton if they stay or go.

I agree with most of that, you could even add Robles to that list, but do they sustain a permanent place like the oldies who play naff?
When did Barry ever get subbed when playing Crass? when he was out for a ban our results were better - Tim H is another mystifying choice to play him when off form and Robles did more than ok - I agree with some, and most of your points but our squad is dads armyish!

He had a knock and Everton brought him back because they wanted to asses him. You can find quotes by brentfords manager on this.

I notice that Brentford are not one of the clubs in for him.

I don't want to be seen as critical of Chris Long and I think he is doing the right thing by going someplace where he has a better chance of playing every week.

My point was that we cannot keep every youngster coming through the academy and to say that he should be ahead of a player like Kone really makes no sense...at the moment.
