Choose Everton?

My nephews (5 and 10) have Evertonian parents, although they have split up now. I'm an Evertonian, my dad was half and half and my mum don't really care that much.

My dad never said to me, go and be a Blue or a Red. My uncles were Man U fans, my Grandparents are from Leeds and Sunderland, and I'm from Chester (not an option).

For some reason I chose Everton, and apart from 3 great seasons, it's been nothing but a nightmare, and I wish that I had either not followed footy at all, or chosen someone else. And please don't drop this old pony that in 84/85 season we were chosen to be Evertonians - we were glory hunters, I saw it happen.

God has chosen me to be an Evertonian. I chose to be an Evertonian, and it's been crap. Apart from the odd whiff of optimism it's been pretty rubbish.

Now, these 2 lads one is an Everton fan, the other one maybe a Liverpool fan, mainly because of him being called Cole, and he likes Joe Cole.

The other day I was disappointed cos I thought you should pass on your allegiences to your offspring. All we are doing is bringing them into a world of disappointment if we say follow Everton.

Yes he may have the odd shining moment, but look at being a Man U fan is like? Or Chelsea? these are people who smile more often than not. All we do is piss and moan, and that overspills into our domestic life as well. I know it does with me, and you only have to venture onto other sites to see that too.

All you American who have decided to follow Everton cos of Landon Donovan or Tim Howard, your well going to be disappointed. Everton don't do things the right way, they don't. That's the truth, and it's depressing the hell out of me, but that's a fact.

These are no demons, this is not a kneejerk reaction. This is like a woman finally getting fed up with her husbands lack of ability to satisfy her during her marriage. She deserves more, we deserve more. We ain't going to get it at Everton.

Now while you think about that, think about this.

Bill Kenwright and his friends will be more interested in how well Moyes has done in the media ****ging off ref's then he has done in his results this season.

I don't think he should go, we have played well in quite a few games, but we are always going to be missing something, always. We have had chances to address the right side of midfield and we have failed to do it. We have had chances to address the striker issue and again we have failed to do it.

When we hear Moyes telling Kenwright he doesn't think he needs anymore players, then alarm bells start ringing when we realise we have absolutely no natural right sided midfielders.

Now for me that is Everton once again letting me, you and everyone who follows them down.

They don't give you enough to satisfy, they give you enough for you to feel that there may be something good happening, but it never will. Not in my lifetime anyway, and certainly not under the stewardship of David Moyes.

Is this me resigning as an Everton fan? Of course not, I'm in a life sentence and I have to deal with it. Sometimes though I wish it was all over, because it's been like eating through a pineapple pizza just to get to the ham.

Well while others will predictably attempt to bait you further, I for one applaud & even appreciate the effort. Because in my first full season truly supporting the club, have found myself asking many of the same questions. Is this what I can expect to go through? If so, would I choose it again if I had the option to go back? For that matter, is it too late, am I already sucked in too far? I fear I am, but the questions remain, and all legitimately valid imo.

I could be mad, but what would that do? I lost my job, life is tough enough as is. What the fck do I need this for? Hell i've never even been to the damn country. Fck me.

Kenwrong.

You support a club because you do, it's not a choice it's just how it is. Like you can't choose your family.

We've had a [Poor language removed] start to the season and everyone is feeling rightly a bit down but questioning supporting Everton? Get a grip of yourselves.

* good luck with the job hunt though deezy lid and chin up.

Totally in control mate. Maybe and this may sound controversial, I care more than you about Everton, because I want to be happy in my life football wise. Maybe you don't need that because it's not as important to you?

I try and not let it consume me, but it does, and that's just the way it is, like you say, we have no choice.

Ok so I've only been a fan (or atleast I've only known I've been a fan since the summer of 2006), so here are my highs. These games/moments left me on cloud 11 for a long time. Made me glad to be apart of something so big.

Everton 3-0 over Liverpool in 2006, my first taste of the derby
Lescott's game winner over Bolton in the 90th in 2007
Last 20 minutes vs Metalist Kharkiv when McFadden and Anichebe had us storm back from a goal down to win it 3-2
Our 7-1 beatdown against Sunderland
The 2007 UEFA Cup run. Yea, we got knocked out on PKs, but Goodison was absolutely electric that night against Fiorentina
Fellaini's game winer in the 90th against Bolton
Tim Cahill in the 90th against Man City, what a beaut
The home and home in the FA Cup against Liverpool, when Dan Gosling would become a legend (and eventually a goat)
Tim Howard being an absolute brick wall against Man U in the FA Cup, and the penos
Tim Cahill's bicycle kick against Chelsea
The absolute bonkers run this team went on last year, just bossing teams all over the park and really showing all of England that we are a top 4 club

So yea, I'd say in my 5 years or so as a member of this organization, I/we've had some pretty good moments, and I'm sure I have forgotten some too

You're a Superfan mate, well done. You got back quick mate, not much traffic?

Not at the moment I'm not, and I'm sure you still care, I bet the last bar is still clearing up your tantrum mess.

Point I was making and it's admirable that you do, is that you are able to mentally detach yourself from the shiteness that is Everton, and this is what I am talking about in these posts.

I'm in my mates bar now, haven't seen us win here for ten games. Not one tantrum thrown yet, apart from shouting [Poor language removed] at Ashley Young a couple of weeks ago.

This result will ruin my whole weekend, it will piss me off tonight when I'm having a drink, it will make me fume when I'm at the beach tomorrow but it's Everton and I wouldn't change that. Just makes me appreciate the aceness more.

Yeah whenever that happens. Ooh look Moneybags just did a little flick. Not enough for me mate. Anyway, off to watch some footy, proper footy, and I guarantee you now. Barca have won the league. Already etched on the trophy.

That's a low bar you're setting there mate.

Ok lets list the highs then.

1994 beating Man U and Liverpool
1995 Winning cup final
1997? Beating Liverpool at Anfield
200? Beating Liverpool 3-0
Last season beating Man U and Chelsea

Anymore for anymore? Were looking for Highs as an Everton fan?
2004? - Everton 1-0 Man United - Virtually sealed 4th spot.
2009 - The wins against Liverpool in the cup, 'Boro (as it took us to Wembley), United and Chelsea (so what if we lost, it was still a great day as an Evertonian.)

The list could be endless if I had more time, these are jsut a few that spring to mind.

*Add to that beating Arsenal 2-1 when Rooney scored THAT goal, thus ending their very long unbeaten run.

City away last year too.
