Means an attack/invasion on South Korea would be treated as an attack on the USA.

And via Nato membership that theoretically involve other Nato members, even outside the European Sphere of influence.

with China as the opposition I think the yanks might make a few excuses and do one, they could never sanction the wholesale slaughter of their forces on such a scale, sure they'd kill plenty but their casualties would be immense. Can we please get from up their colon before such an event occurs, I don't want my kids growing up to be conscripted and sent to any war.

US strategy to contain China is to remain two generations in military technology terms ahead of them.

For one thing China isn't even yet a blue sea navy.

There would be whole sale slaughter in a conventional war but it wouldn't be the US purely because of the amount of precision guided munitions and stand off weaponry they can throw at the opposition
