Have recently booked to go for New Year with the other half.

Had originally planned for NY but seemed to get more for your money with Chicago so plumped for there.

Wondered if anyone has any tips/advice on things to see/eat/drink?

Thanks Fellas.

It's a great city. But very very very cold in the winter
It was incredibly cold the last time I was in Chicago in January. Well below zero Fahrenheit with the wind chill.
For the OP, I probably would have stuck with NYC in January but Chicago has some great museums worth visiting. You're probably not going to want to be outside for long especially with the winds off of Lake Michigan

Plenty of food and drink choices. I'd spend the money to see the Bulls or Blackhawks or both, if you're able to get tickets.

I heard it's the fourth most miserable City in America but have fun!
I'd agree with that! I go every year for business and it's my least favourite city. But then if you're going as a tourist it's probably different I guess. It will be cold though!

Your number one priority should be Chicago style deep dish pizza. Lou Malnati's has multiple locations and is a great place to try it, but there are several others in town as well. Also Italian Beef sandwiches for food. Al's is supposed to be the original, but again there should be several good places to get some. Just ask your hotel what's good near you for both.

For things to do definitely go to the Navy Pier area. Plenty of good shopping, restaurants, and things to do there. There are also a few places there that offer boat tours. It'd be a great way to see the city. You may want to look into booking in advance for those.

Also Millennium Park is great for a nice day (if you get one in January). It has the famous Cloud Gate and Crown Fountain. There is also an ice skating rink there.

Aside from that, plenty of museums to enjoy like others have said. And also +1 for Bulls/Blackhawks game if you have the extra money. I would go Blackhawks personally - hockey live is boss and Blackhawks should be much better than the Bulls - but either would be very entertaining.

It's a lovely city, enjoy mate.

Thanks Pal.

Booking tickets for a Bulls game this week, gonna try and get as much booked as I can before I go.

I've found an Everton bar as well which I'll be sure to check out.

Also think we're gonna go to the ticketed Gala for NY. About £80 each with unlimited food and drink and private viewing gallery for fireworks over Lake Michigan.

Finally think we're gonna book a "Movie Tour" see classic scenes from The Sting, High Fidelity, The Dark Knight, Ferris Bueller etc.

Find a bar called The Public House in the centre. One street north of the river. Awesome range of ale.

Museum of Science and Industry is excellent too. Real U boat in the basement is very cool.

sounds like a cracking trip that . I want to do Chicago myself and then onto Green Bay for a packers game . How much did the flights cost you and hotel ?
