...spent many a happy day there when the kids were little. Wonderful place, so many happy memories. Hoping staff, visitors and animals are all safe and sound.

In the past, maybe. But for the conservation work they do, and the education they give to kids that says, "look, this is the world we share as humans," they're useful.

Pretty soon though, about the only place orangutans will be found is in zoos. We're far more barbaric towards them and their habitat where big business greed is a factor.

'Sides, the gawpers don't need zoos anymore, they have Jeremy Kyle on tv and can just wander around a field on a match day if they want to feel superior to the animals.

Zoos arent ideal Frank but the amount thats done for conservation makes a massive difference

In a way I agree Mush, but the conservation work they do and the fact they allow kids to appreciate animals close up is a plus for me.
If only those snide Japs would take heed instead of using Rhino horns etc.
