"When the truth offends we lie and lie, until we can no longer even remember that it is even there. But it is, still there.

Every lie we tell occurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later that debt is repaid. "

I think you'll find it incredibly difficult to find a speech as good as that in the last decade, at least For me, it's the best TV in a long time and up there with the best.

Superb. Jared Harris is immense in it. Don’t usually have the patience to watch serialised programmes but this was different. Took me about 30 mins though to get used to russian characters speaking with English accents!

Might have missed something but what was the actual point of the part where the young lad is taken on the dog-shooting exercise? I mean I thought it was building up to something or was leading to a scene where these characters cross paths with the main characters but they weren’t seen again as far as I can recall...?

You just wait until Kenwright calls it a day.

His speech will knock spots off that.

I presumed it was to show the impact Chernobyl had on the liquidators: a young, scared boy morphing into a cold man.

I had no idea who his father was until an interview I read with him a few weeks back. Outstanding actor, I have yet to see him in anything that he isn't knocking it out of the park
His father was a marvellous actor so he's had a great role model to learn from, but Jared is a wonderful actor of his own merit who has flourished in his later years.

I've always been interest in Chernobyl so it was brilliant how they've somehow combined lots of factually correct, technical information with laymen's examples.

It's far from dumbed down for audiences while still being understandable for most; when you watch it again, you start to see so many more subtle points.

It was also to highlight the loss of innocence of young Russians post disaster.

An naive teetotal young lad, thrown in with hardened Afghan War veterans, who by the end of it all was glugging vodka down for breakfast as it was the only way he could get through the day.

It`s deffo worth watching twice, as reckon there`ll be a lot of subtle stuff that got missed first time around.

The DVD is out on general sale in mid July, which says that the global demand for the series must be enormous.

I`d love to know Putins take on the series !!!

I watched episode one straight after the final episode and the prior knowledge made it much easier to understand; the subtle stuff comes out as well.

Incurs a debt to the truth wasn't it?
