I'm looking for a very cheap laptop. As you know most of the world now use Firefox (thank god), but there are still some dinosoars still on IE. So unfortunately I need a PC system to test my work in IE. Up till now I have been using a really old PC, but it's just not up to it anymore.

Just need something with XP on it. Nothing else.

Any ideas? anybody build laptops?

Unfortunately, most who come here still use IE. Nightmare. Though more and more are using FireFox!

Have a look at eBuyer.

Would stay away from eBay.

Or if moneys tight, or until you get one, maybe use a browser capability tool? - I know not ideal in terms of testing literally everything, but for design they do the job.

There a bit expensive for what they are though. Plus I am relying on someone else's server to run it.

Oh and I need wi-fi too.

You can get free ones on mobile or broadband contracts?

Currently PCWorld are doing them if you take out broadband with them.

I thought you could do a virtual PC install on Apples (not that I know much about them, just seen people talking about it).

Otherwise I'd look in my weekly freesheet - always seems to be heaps of computer junk in there for peanuts. If all you want is a beater for browser checks.

I'm on o2 obviously with the iPhone, and my Broadband is part of my Sky package. So not much look there. Maybe one of these Netbooks, I think I saw one in some computer shop in bromborough for about £150. It was small as well, which would be ideal.

Virtual PC stuff, it's expensive or it doesn't work. Bootcamp though works fine on my old mac, which I have downstairs, but the wife has commandeered it. Hmm, maybe I buy her a laptop and bring that Mac back home to roost.

Ghost, I have an Acer Asipre One. Cheap, net-book that comes with XP home and wi-fi (G spec) built in.

Runs an Intel Atom 1.6GHZ cpu with 16GB SSD storage. Great for exactly what you are talking about and over here, are $300. I believe Reidy had linked to one before Xmas for 200 quid.
