2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

It has been said we are tight for PSR before July and if we trigger his clause we have to pay his fee before July. Maybe we go back for him after July, personally I like him and agree we need to see him start central in a few of the remaining games. He is positive, carries the ball and can make things happen which is more than most of our midfielders.

…good theme this, I suggest Beto plays in central defence so he doesn’t have to hold the ball up ;)
Beto likes the ball over the top to run on to - DCL was a great back to goal player - Chermitti looked very lightweight when he came on - Beto had a great shot & was immediately subbed - I feel in a better team Beto would score more goals if the team played to his strengths of the through ball - When is DM going to stop playing a player like Doucs out of contract - as when selected we play with ten men - he is never a number 10 - too slow & the worst thing was for him to grab the late winner at Forest when he had another poor game -
If DM continues to pick him we need to find a new manager next season as DM first time around was always set in his ways .... Plus he had a better squad of players back then - he has done a brilliant job to get us to survive, but lately his style of football is reverting to Dyche style tactics .....

Remember Arteta had a successful loan and we spent all summer haggling it down from £2m to £1.5m

This isn't an anti Moyes post in general as I am glad he is the manager currently but he is really annoying me over Alcaraz.

Alcaraz has shown quality since first arriving - the freekick that hit the post vs Bournemouth in the Cup showed an ability far beyond most of our other players (even if it didn't go in)...the likes of Garner, Doucoure, Harrison.

The persistence with Doucoure is costing us in games. Alcaraz is clearly a far superior footballer and every time he has the ball he plays with urgency and moves the ball along quickly and positively. Something Doucoure and Garner simply don't, and can't seem to do. Alcaraz should have had quite a few assists registered when he was putting Beto through in the first few weeks, and he also should have had one on Saturday with the McNeil chance.

Doucoure has 3 goals in 29 PL apps this season. Alcaraz would have easily outscored him and contributed more in assists if given more time on the pitch. There is only so far running around can get you. Doucoure is abysmal on the ball and he is offering us next to nothing. The Forest goal doesn't mask his ineffectiveness for months.

What kind of loan deal stops you from playing the loaned player?!

Mandatory fees and clauses for playing certain amount of games or starts.

Recent example I can think of is Wolves got Cunha in on loan in the January window. He had a £50mill mandatory fee if he played/started something like 10 games. They were struggling at the bottom of the table and bit the bullet.

They then were looking down the PSR barrell and had to start selling.

We don't know what the loan deal is like with Carlos which could mean the club want to hold off and have a better negotiation for a deal after it ends.

Or that the manager thinks he's muck.

He’s good at lots of the things we need but don’t have. He’s relatively cheap. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t take up the option to sign him permanently.
Ive said it before i will be so annoyed if we dont sign him. But i also dont want us to sign him, while for some reason keeping Doucoure and always shoving Alcaraz to the left. (Doucoure for me should leave, not see us keep him on lower wages)

Moyse has a long history of sticking with players who are not doing the business on the field but who in some way fit into his system of trying not to concede. You just have to look at his record at the Sky Six grounds. I know we can't go overnight from Dyche ball to an open expansive attacking team, but sticking with Doucs and Harrison when they are clearly not top half Prem players is worrying.

Beto obviously has his limitations, but there are lots of successful strikers over the years who couldn't hold the ball up well. Looking at the video of his time in Italy it was a bizzare bit of business to buy him for our squad in the first place. All we've done is buy a player totally unsuited to our system and considerably lowered any potential sell on price.
