2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

To be fair, one could argue the manager would expect us to need to be more defensively sound in this run of games and prioritise the miles doucs puts in
He will never run around as much as Duke. Probably nobody will but his quality on the ball is far superior.

If we had a director of football in place ….. I think we would sign Charley as he is modestly priced. if he plays 25-30 games next season, even if often from the bench, and has 4 goals and 6 assists (say) then if Davey doesn’t fancy him we sell for reasonable profit.

Seems too sensible to miss out on the opportunity business wise to me

I’m not saying he’s weak, just that he isn’t as physically strong as Doucoure.
It’s not rugby. We seriously need to move away from this mindset of Everton having big strong grafters, the likes of Spitty from Sky love trying to rewrite our history….plucky little Everton, up and at them, not much good but by eck do they run!! We’ve always liked skilful, hardworking players. Alcaraz is technically in the top bracket of our squad with Iliman, who by the way is what i would consider an Everton player, skilful and hardworking

Yeah, but until we have a good enough squad we need to be able to compete physically so we can narrow the deficit. It's all about balance, at the end of the day.

This. Posted similar in the match thread at the weekend.

Post below says Doucoure is more physical than Alcaraz but the thing is we need to evolve to quality ball players which Alcaraz is still 22 and raw but Doucoure offers us nothing with the ball, just runs around aimlessly yet this seems to be seen as some weird positive.

Control of the ball and create chances leads to goals. Running around aimlessly leads to defeats

Exactly, even if the argument for physicality stood up, it doesn’t in the modern age, Doucs doesn’t do enough even at that, moves like a rusty barge, his frame seems as heavy as his first touch. The more physical, poor footballers you have, the more you need. He’s a visual barrier at best for teams passing out against us, decent sides just pass triangles around him comfortably. We need to move on from this nonsense, almost everyone else has

Not sure I understand the Doucoure is exceptionally physical shout, I don't see that. Unless we're talking about his first touch, which certainly is a hammer.

What is the basis of this statement, I've seen nothing consistently shown from him that would give me this view.

They was making out like he's the second coming of Maradona. Are you saying he's looked that good?

Never saw that.

I read that they saw him as their best player, best ball carrier, passer and most driven with his high energy and stamina being a particular trait.

They predicted that he'd be a £40mil player very quickly and if he hadnt been overawed / not settled in Italy, he would have been.

He's instantly become Evertons 2nd best attacking player from the moment he stepped on the pitch.

At £15mil.
