Champions League revamp

But not one that they clearly have the power to implement. It's not clear that the government does, either, in the sense that their traditional constituency is probably going to be opposed to forced sales. I suppose that Johnson's play could be for an election and two additional years on the back of popular sentiment regarding the matter, and short memories with respect to COVID. It's not like the people he's going to tick off are going to throw their toys out of the pram and go over to Labour.

Gets back to what I said about the sponsors and evil.
They can make lives very difficult for the owners.

Seems to me like they’re willing to double down whatever the cost, they want that big money regardless of whether they alienate and destroy everyone and everything along the way. And yet they still have the arrogance to expect the Prem to allow them to play in it. No.

This of course pushes the other 14 clubs into a position where they’re effectively forcing them to either make the huge call of turfing them out of the league and suffering the finical consequences or accepting irrelevance for eternity. They’re so arrogant they’re convinced it’ll be the latter.

See how much the Liverpool players embraced those shirts from Leeds?

Again, that was always a windup.

Football should be protected as heritage.

Football can't self regulate - clearly.

Yes. Is Boris Johnson the man to do that? Personally, I think he'll twist Jefferson's "that government is best which governs least" and take minimum action to resolve the immediate matter.

Yup, it was always going to be a late career guy with bags of credibility that broke ranks and scorched the earth on this one.

I've had a bit of a sleep... and I'm STILL against it.

However, on FIFA 21 I've started a new career mode, but with all of the ESL teams stripped of every player rated above 70 and banished to the "Rest of the World", with Irish teams entered into League Two to plug the gap.

Five "years" in, 42 year old Ronaldo is doing the biz for Atalanta, who are about to take on Sevilla in the Champions League final - Everton were KOed by Montpellier in the 2025/26 quarter finals (koff Ev!)

Still though, the "new, improved FIFA 21" is now bliss. Sheer, unpredictable, entertaining bliss, and no cheap scripting from OP Real Madrid et al.

It would be interesting if they went on strike.

I think there is a bit of a split here too. City and to a degree probably Chelsea's owners would care more. Perception matters more. I don't think the Glaziers or FSG care at all though. Whatever damage to reputation is done they will go for it. It makes me think they've given some commitments.

Agreed - but I think if more than 1 PL team rolls back they all do

Who will the penny drop for though mate?

Re the government, what do you think they could do? I'm not sure they can do an awful lot but bluster. They're private businesses.

For fans who think the Premier League will expel the six.

They won't. Fans annoyed at that statement today, expecting news of clubs being banned. Nope.

The government have a mandate to do what has needed doing for a long time. Adopt a German like model.

"We are examining every option from governance reform to competition law and mechanisms that allow football to take place.
"We will be reviewing everything Government does to support these clubs to play. We will do whatever it takes to protect our national game."
A fan-led review, due to take place after the pandemic, has been brought forward because of the ESL announcement, Mr Dowden said.
It will be led by former sports minister Tracey Crouch and consider how fans can have an even greater say in the oversight of the game.

Government can help fund the initial loss in revenue to protect teams from going under. I think that's the toughest period for the rest of the domestic leagues.

Again, that was always a windup.

Not sure the post is a genuine mate I just seen it and posted it. I am hoping more players will speak out soon about this. If not it will speak volumes.

Not supportive of this super league at all but the idea that it’s anti competitive surely isn’t right - are we saying No rival leagues can be set up outside UEFA’s control? Surely the Super League have more of a case in terms of not being allowed to break away?
