Champions League Restructure

Probably the best team these shores have ever seen, who seemingly beat everyone at a canter in our League, can’t produce it in the Champions League. I don’t think the standard is anywhere near as bad as you make out. But we know why your doing it. We can’t have a decent, constructive discussion because at the end of it, the only narrative is to belittle the Orcs achievement. I would give my left testicle to see us in the Champions League knockout stages, coming up against the big European glamour clubs. These clubs will always have some of the best players in the World in their ranks, regardless of whether they’re as good now than 15 years ago. If we could do that at Goodison before we leave. Wow. As supporters that’s what we live for. I may be on my own here but that would be better for me than a Carabao Cup win. And would set us up nicely for moving to BMD. The FA Cup? I’m not so sure.

Orcs? Who calls them Orcs?!

Oh. And bloody obvious...

This was one was far too easy. Honestly, he gave himself away on his second post.

I cant join the dots - explain please?

It's exactly this. The Bayern, Juve, Real Madrid, Barca, PSG group, and I guess the teams like Milan and Inter that like to still think of themselves as big boys, all realize the Premier League is going to crush them. That teams like Everton, West Ham and Wolves aren't a million miles away from making it a "Big 8" and eventually just having a league of 12 teams or so that are all elite level because they have so much money. And if that is allowed to happen the Premier League becomes the draw and the rest of Europe watches. They know this is the last shot they have to save their cash cows.
The premier league changes if the money and tv viewers goes to champions league. It will be dominated by large city clubs.

That's exactly what we City fans thought before we qualified regularly for it.
The reality is somewhat different. It is a corrupt competition, run by a corrupt
organisation for the benefit of a small number clubs.
Yes - you get to play the 'big clubs' but then see with your own eyes just how bent the officiating is.
The crowds at the games are full of tourists and JCL's (apart from the 'famous European nights under the lights'
at Liverpool - where every single supporter is from a Liverpool postcode of course)
Some of the teams in the competition are cannon fodder and it's expensive to go and watch them.
It really is massively overrated as a competition. Plus the fact if you started to do well in the competition
and started pushing the noses out of some of the 'big clubs' you wouldn't be made welcome.
In terms of away trips for fans the Europa League is better. You play different teams from different locations
and it's a lot more fun.
Be careful what you wish for... Your left testicle is pretty valuable! :)

However, the proposal was strongly opposed by Europe's domestic leagues that say the battle for Champions League places is a key aspect of their competitions. A number of ECA members then broke ranks after a meeting in Malta in June and also criticised the plan.
Sources close the to clubs said on Monday that other proposals were now on the table.
These included one which suggested groups of six for the Champions League and another proposed by FC Copenhagen which would change the criteria which decides the allocation of places.
At present, slots are allocated to clubs depending on where they finish in their respective domestic leagues, with the top four teams from England, Spain, Italy and Germany earning direct qualification for the Champions League group stage.
However, FC Copenhagen proposed that historical records of the clubs should also be taken into account -- which would favour big clubs from middle-ranking leagues over smaller clubs from top-ranked leagues.

That's good. It's only a matter of time before something significant happens as the current system is going to continue to see the Premier League grow bigger and bigger than everyone else which the other top clubs won't take but for now this is good.
