As the Football Leagues Centenary Champions in 1987 we played some friendly games against other champions. I remember us being put to the slaughter in The Bernabeu losing 6-1, a Hugo Sanchez penalty and resulting somersault springs to mind as part of it.
Who else did we play against though in our role as Football League Ambassadors ?
We played in New Zealand that year but I reckon that was a club tour, I met guys who were asked to be ball boys as they played for local teams, and they said they were invited into the dressing room and everything by Everton.
My Grandad was on holiday in Malta, and the team stayed in their hotel, aged about 75 at the time he was taken to the game against Hamrun Spartans by the club and given the full day out, I HAD a prog but god knows what happened to it, signed as well by everyone.
So who exactly did we play in that capacity ?
