Lukaku is a fantastic striker.

However, to say he plays the role of a lone striker (i.e. drops deep to link the play, holds the ball up, makes runs to wide areas of the pitch etc) better than anyone in the league is ridiculous mate.

Lukaku was great for us. Not disputing that. But at times - especially against the best sides - we played without any outball or anybody to stretch the game, because Rom just wouldn't do it.

As you said yourself, he's a poacher. He's built like Drogba, but plays nothing like him. He's at his best on the shoulder of the last man, using his pace and power to get through on goal.

Giroud, Morata, Firmino (even though he plays in a three as a false 9, he'd probably be better), Rondon, Tosun etc probably all play the lone striker role better (that's off the top of my head) in regards to those factors I label above.

However, without a doubt Lukaku is a better striker than all of them when it comes to goalscoring and getting in the right positions. I'm not disputing that.
Lukaku is a heavyweight boxing version of Michale Owen

What do you think about his finishing @Eggs ?

Got a cracking shot with his weak foot.

..I think he’s a very decent finisher. The best ones strike a ball cleanly, the best ones invariably slot inside the post. Tosun is decent in the air too but that’s pretty blunt in a team that doesn’t create. I think we need better, an all round, top drawer striker that puts fear into the opposition defence with pace power, attitude and ability. If we do become more creative, Tosun will be a useful attribute in the squad.

He is decent and is good enough for where we are at the moment. Has a good strike on him, placements good, positional sense seems good, just needs the service. Granted, I don’t think he is the striker to take us to the next level, but I doubt we can attract those players at the moment so until the gap is closed, I think he will do well.

Agreed. Based on what I’ve seen I’d have him over pretty much all of the strikers playing for clubs outside of the top 6. Possibly Vardy as the exception but age is an issue with him.

This lad was playing in the champions league, scoring blooters against Monaco, comes to us and he gets to experience now-championship side Stoke's stadium. Think he'll be decent next season
