Come on, people aren't ripping him to shreds. It's just pretty obvious he's not anything special. Put it like this, would we be improved by Arnautović playing up front for us? The answer is undoubtedly yes.

I'd love a motivated Arnautovic on the rampage for us. I did wonder last summer why we hadn't gone for him, he'd been great for stoke. Our buying strategy was weird. At £20 million plus add ons he was very affordable, especially given what we spent.

I get how hard it is up there for Tosun but it's obvious there are better players out there. Can't help but be impressed by Arnautović in a team that like us is crap. The impact he has on a game is there for all to see.

What do you expect, we’re a mid table team, we aren’t going to sign anyone special. I’d much rather have Tosun than the 1 in 5 player that is Arnautovic.

You clearly haven't watched West Ham this year and it seems like you haven't watched much of us. If Arnautović is a 1 in 5 player then what does that make Tosun? He barely touches the ball and I get partly that is due to our attack but is West Ham that much better?
He's a match winner / gamechanger, agree. I like Tosun, I'd like to see him with a better left side attacking player and a significantly upgraded midfield to play off and with. With the money we've lobbed around we shouldn't need to rely on a single player though. We should have a functioning unit and coherent style. I.e. several players who can make the difference. How we've just ended up with a squad of fairly pedestrian players is unreal (Klassen, Rooney, Sigurdson, Schneiderlin and Tosun). Only Walcott, Coleman and arguably DCL mixe dynamism with quality on the ball . Bolassie and Niasse are painful at times.

I’ve watched West Ham struggle to fight off relegation the entire season. Tosun is statsistically for us a 1 in 3 player.
He also doesn’t have the gash attitude that Arnautovic has and is also a natural striker. Without the dinosaur in charge Tosun would do alright.

I’d have Paul Gerard on the wing over Bolasie.
I would have a scarecrow over Bolasie. At least the team would not get caught in the wrong foot.

We can't be settling for alright though. We want to be trying to overtake Arsenal. Won't be happening if Tosun is our lead man for 38 games.

Arnautovic has 10 goals in 29 appearances in the PL. 1 goal every 210 minutes.
Tosun has 5 in 13 in the PL. 1 goal every 186 minutes.
For comparison Niasse has 7 in 21 appearances, or 1 goal every 141 minutes.
