CB Dilemma

at 31, Jags probably has the best 5 years of his career ahead of him.....distin has prob 1 more season in him....so we do need another center back in the summer, a replacement for heitinga....alcaraz is a waste of time & wages.....stones needs more experience....

How many cb's actually have their best 5 years from the age of 31 to 36 mate, utterly daft statement

Distin probably did to be fair.

Not really mate, he was just playing with a much better team than at Portsmouth/City with a better cb partner, didn't get any better, just aged very well

Captain at city, captain at Portsmouth, hardly played poorly at either place

Already responded to another saying that, and he hasn't improved beyond 31, just playing at an overall better team, he was Coty and Portsmouth captains because he was one of their better players.

But nice to see you answered that Jags probably has the best 5 years ahead of him with one players name like as proof that cb's best years are between the age of 31-36 like lol

well actually 32-37 years of age as he's 32 in august like

you can add to that great players like McGrath, baresi, maldini, cannavaro....simple reason was at 31-35, they were reading the game far better than they did when they were younger.....

i could name plenty of other centre backs who were better in their 30's....mabbutt, Staunton, Bruce, carragher, Adams, keown...

I can give a whole host of top class players whose best years where in their late twenties as well mate
Funnily enough half of the ones on your list or more are in their like, yup all those players aged well, but sorry lad they didn't get better after 31, they just aged better than most so stood out as remarkable athletes to be able to play at the top level so long

Gough? Cannavaro? Adams?

Cannavaro was one of the worlds best defenders all through his career mate, fair enough will give ya he did peak in his late 20's early 30's though, but at madrid he wasn't the same player as at Juve, Inter or Parma, and he was only 33 when people thought he'd started to decline - much like terry/ferdinand and vidic have all declined at the same age. Top top player though who compensated for his declining physical ability like maldini managed to do, but sorry wasnt a better player after 31

Gough was a better player at Rangers than after he left Scotland mate

Adams was better in 98 (at 27) than he was in 2002 (31) mate and he declined slowly but he was a better player by a way between the ages of 27-31 than after
