Cat amongst the pigeons

While we're on this topic: how exactly are you meant to use "cat amongst the pigeons"?
As in the saying? You would saying something like "that set a cat amongst the pigeons" if someone does or says something that upsets a load of people. It's the type of thing you'd hear an old lady on Coronation Street say.

That comment about it being an old lady's saying has set the cat amongst the pigeons? (Waits eagerly for feedback)

Seriously though: I am with all those who are in favor of getting rid of the complete dross first: cleverly, Oviedo (nice lad but), Kone, etc. These imagined grand gestures when our squad is so threadbare are comical.

Baines, Jags and Mirallas are three of our better players and should be kept.

Cleverley, Kone, Niasse, Gibson, Besic, Oviedo and McGeady are the first to leave for me. I think Lennon and McCarthy are good for the squad.
Im not saying we need to go and spend £150m but I would like to see the likes of Holgate, Davies and co given a more encouraging role in the squad.

How about getting rid of actual dross like cleverley Niasse Gibson lennon kone Besic etc and not people who are among the best in England in their position like Baines

Well, Lennon and Besic aren't dross, but I agree with the sentiment.

We haven't won a game since Baines has been out. Jagielka has all-in-all been superb this season.

Mirallas has been good as well though stuttered in the last few games.

I'm sorry, but this is madness from the OP.

ha ha nice one.

However, battle-hardened? Two of the three are the biggest pair of bottlers on the books when the big or tough games rock up....Jags I'll concede will put his body on the line.

We haven't won a game this season that Baines hasn't played in.

Make of that what you will.

We clearly need to move to the next level, and RK does seem the type to do it.

For me, he needs to make bold statements by moving on good players who are past their best....if we don't then nothing changes. also means we can get a fee for them before they're too long in the tooth.

I'd move out Baines, Jagielka and Mirallas.

Purely on football ability and nothing to do with status anyone agree?

*Puts hand up to vault self*...I didn't quite disagree, but I said it was 'fraught' - so any way; 2 penalties later...
I would add - them and 3 or 4 more, plus the Gibson's, Kone's and Niasse's

It won't, in fact CAN'T happen at once, but some will need to go sooner and some later...same for bringing in replacements - it won't/can't happen at once

Jags and Williams are the most solid centre back pairing we've had at the club for years, Baines is still one of the best left backs in the league but has just been unlucky with some injuries recently and Mirallas is one of four wingers we have who are capable of match winning moments. I suppose I could see an argument for Mirallas being sold even though I wouldn't personally but Jags and Baines going is a terrible shout.

Who mentioned not moving on that bunch? I'd have thought it was a 'given' to most sensible Evertonians? The point being made is if we really want to progress the 'stalwarts' have to be moved on too. SAF did it regularly.
SAF could do it because players were falling over themselves to sign for them.
We currently don't have that luxury so we need to keep our better players to improve us.
When we are in the position where players want to sign for us then we can ship some out. As the summer proved don't expect that to be for a while yet.

fantastic idea. Move our first team players on and make more game time opportunities for the likes of kone, niasse, valencia, oviedo and the rest.

it is almost like they are holding all our world class talent back in the reserves and are not the best we can possibly get.........
