Completely get where you're coming from, but your employer is paying you a not insignificant amount of money (plus a lot of non-value add costs for employing you) and will rightfully look to get you to progress to give them a better return on their investment.Im in my mid 30s and starting to think I'm just a bit weird with regard to my attitude towards a career and jobs in general. I just can't bring myself to give a toss about my job other than doing it 9-5 as a means of income, as soon as it hits 5 thats its... not a single **** was given about anything work related.
Loads of people are like this when they are younger but lots of people in their 30s who i know and who work for the same company are all really career minded whereas i just don't care about a 'career', id rather put all my effort into life outside of work (hobbies etc) than put in any extra effort into a job.
I don't even hate my job, its alright and pays pretty well but i just don't care about the company one little bit or the industry or any industry i've ever worked in for that matter.
I think my boss etc expect me to actually care about this kind of stuff but i don't see why i should have to care, i do my job to best of my ability 9-5 but thats as far as it goes... i refuse to answer any work related calls or anything outside these hours much to my bosses annoyance.
I genuinely think i'll go through my entire life with zero career ambition, id rather just hop through random jobs with zero ambition towards 'moving up the ladder'.
30k a year, don't need any more than that to live my life how i want and yet I'm made to feel like some kind of weirdo by work colleagues for not wanting to 'enhance and progress' my career.

Nah.
A job is just a job for me anyway. Fair play to anyone who has a job doing something they truly love but for me I work to be able to pay to do the stuff I love doing.
That's all a job is to me. My dream job chance came and went in a flash so I think that's why I'm a bit meh to jobs.
This is excellent adviceIf you're going to stay apathetic, you have to stay anonymous. Even if you put in more effort 9-5 than your colleagues, bosses remember that Shelly down the hall stayed late or answered calls when you didn't. It is a sad fact of life, but the moment they flag you as somebody who won't help out after hours, they will start looking for more problems.
Also, if you don't care about brand loyalty, always be looking for better opportunities. Applying for jobs isn't too hard, and you can usually squeeze pay increases from lateral moves every few years if you keep an eye open.
This is coming from somebody in his 30s who is driven.
A word of warning the grass isn't greener if you move to what you feel is a better job.Im in my mid 30s and starting to think I'm just a bit weird with regard to my attitude towards a career and jobs in general.
