M40, then park at Uxbridge station and get train in to Wembley. If early no probs w station car park, if a bit later and it's full you can pay to park on local residents driveway.
Works a treat, done this since 80's.

M1 horrible at moment.

Took 5 hours to get back from Stanmore to Lancashire after last week England game and that was at 1030 pm .

Train from Watford Junction at 17.37 gets into Lime Street at 20.42 and is £37 on trainline. Have a few beers, get changed on the train, buy some limp flowers at the station, happy wife.

I need to be back in Liverpool by 9 after the game on Saturday or a divorce will be on the cards. If anyone is familiar with the area and the after match traffic, is it best to head west to the M40 or east to the M1, and if the latter do you avoid town centre snarl ups by parking up south of the ground and then going a bit more south before heading for the M1?

I'm travelling from Walsall going M40 there and back to avoid roadworks and the (obvious) accidents on the M1

Yeah, M40 > M1 as the M1 is generally horrendous more often than not.
