To relieve the crippling boredom of the international break (is it just me or do they get worse every season?), a bit of fun.

Quite a topical debate given recent criticism (and equally vocal defence) of Jagielka's captaincy. Out of all the Everton captains across your lifetime, if they were all in the same squad who would be captain of that squad?

Also what was it about them that separated them from the rest and would therefore inspire the others to recognise him as captain?

Wow. Tough choice. I would narrow it down to three. Kevin Ratcliffe, Brian Labone (based on what my Dad says) and Mick Lyons. I would have to go for Mick Lyons. True Blue, the teenage me adored him, my brother lives in Perth and sometimes has a beer with him. He says Mick is always made up to talk all things Everton with him.

Did anyone notice on Friday, after they scored the disallowed goal and all the Palace players ran to the lino to put their case across, Jagielka stood 10 yards back and said nothing, enough said..

As said above, from what I've read and the stories I've heard, Ratcliffe, Labone or Lyons!

...I think it's really difficult for the on-looker because we don't see the influence off the pitch as well as on. Also, the club representative role that is so important. Folk seem to have an idea that a requirement is to shout a lot but I don't believe that to be the case, our most successful captains (Labone and Ratcliffe) were not voiciferous.

It's lots to do with respect, it's lots to do counselling, it's lots to do with being a role model. The best leader competencies in any walk of life are generic.

Capt. is as Capt. does.

Takes more than just an armband and tossing the coin eh Jags

Southall and Reid were 'Captains' but Ratters had the armband

Between Labone and Lyons, blue blood flowing through their veins. Ratcliffe, while being our most successful captain, is a miserable get. Honourable mention to Mark Higgins, who may have developed into a great captain were it not for injury. Having not seen Labby, I'll go for Lyons.

Dave Watson for me. Ratcliffe led by example, but that team had about 5 captains so he didn't need to lead as much. We are crying out for a leader, preferably in midfield.
