That is exactly what i, along with a few others on here have been saying. Chelsea being knocked out of the CL makes our task in the Final that bit harder, they will have greater determination now not to have another trophy-less season. I was actually amazed that several on here seemed pleased by Chelsea's defeat, not taking into consideration how it has an affect on the Cup Final on May 30th.

To be fair, I don't appreciate the rationale but they wanted to watch Messi play against Man Utd - even to the detriment of out FA Cup final chances....

At the end of the day, as our Captain said, it would have been advantageous for Evertons FA Cup chances if our opposition were playing three days prior, in another country, in such a massive game. Especially with the chance of extra time and the increased likelihood of a niggling injury of two...

With that in mind, any Evertonian should have cursed when Iniesta scored. I know I did.

Is Messi really the be-all-and-end-all of FC Barcelona? I thought players such as Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Eto'o etc played for them also. Long gone our the days that English fans wanted English club sides to do well in European competitions. I understand their are many Messi fans around, but what is more important, watching Everton lift a trophy or watching Messi play in a CL Final?? I know what i would prefer!

It would have been better if Chelsea had another final to concentrate on but would it have much significance to the May 30th final?, i would say not really. They could have lost against united and it might have made them even angrier to remedy the situation 3 days later. Its going to be tough to win anyway, lets not start putting out these excuses already

I repeat my notion that yes it would have benefited us. I cannot help but think back to 1985 when we played in the Cup Winners Cup Final a few days before we lost to United at Wembley, a defeat that i still put down to tiredness.

Didn't GhostofDixie argue to the contrary?

<stirs pot>

Nah he said it would have been an advantage - but didn't think it was that significant.

I dont think anyone would argue that it wouldn't have been an advantage to Everton.

My view is that them having no extra midweek game will have an effect, but nowhere near as great as if we (please God, no) picked up another injury or suspension. My eyes now are on Moyes' team selections and how hard they go for the 5th Spot Trophy he seems to crave. We should be just ticking over in these last few games, but I fear eyeballs out levels of energy from his best team will be demanded.

Oh right. That was some running debate you had with him on Wednesday night/Thursday morning over something so insignificant.

<takes one more go at stirring pot>

*gets spoon*

It was just Ghosts hatred of Drogba clouding his judgement. Clearly Chelsea were robbed....

Why are we worrying about the fact that Chelsea will be gunho for the final? Were we expecting less than that or something?

If we cant beat em as they are and rely on what they do outside of the final, then we really arent good enough to beat them.

Its a one off game. We'll be up for it as much as they are. They players will and should give 120% and play till their knees collapse on them. For the last few seasons we tend to have close results against them - defeats by the odd goal or draw.

To win cups you've gotta play the big teams. Even if they got to the CL final, people thinking that Chelsea will just roll over for the FA Cup would be wrong IMO.

I think its wrong and terrible for Pip to come out and say it to be fair. He's made us seem like we're scared now. Ballack says they're eager for silverware now? So ******* what? So are we. They'll be well prepared? So will we.

He should've said - they'll be focused on us now, like we're focused on them. We've been preparing for the toughest game of the last 14 odd years for the club and we'll give it everything. Rather than - oh well, they'll be gunning for us now, I'm scared.

Its pissed me off to be fair. Just admit defeat now then Phil against the big scary Chelsea machine.

It might suit us, to be fair. Let Chelsea get all the attention as the wronged party in the run up to the game - how they have a chance to still put silverware on the table this season blah, blah, blah. We get on with things - preparing quietly to take their 'consolation prize' away from them. Takes the pressure right off Moyes and the team if this narrative is kept up.

Posted via Mobile Device There are two ways of looking at this. ~ 1. As they went out they will be fresher come the FA Cup Final, and, you would also assume, be even more determined to get their hands on at least one piece of silverware. 2. If they had gone through to face United and lifted the CL trophy they would be meeting us on such a high that i dont think the fact that they only had three days to recover their energy would be to our advantage at all. ( sorry just thought of a third scenario, stay wlth me i'm on a roll. * wink * ) Where was i ? Oh yeah, 3. Even if they had gone through, and lost, although being on a massive downer you'd have to believe that they were professional enough to put it behind them and come out and give it their full attention. I've confused myself now, i'm going for a lie down !
