Can't be bothered anymore

I wonder if it's harder for the older fans who've seen success or us younger ones who haven't? It's frustrating how bad this seasons turned out but having been a match going supporter since the mid 90's I can't get too down at this. Especially seeing as we have the likes of Stones, McCarthy, Barkley and Lukaku in the team instead of Short, Gemmill, Pembridge and Jevons...

I reckon the hope of last season is what's killing most at the moment. Just as we thought we'd be back amongst the best teams in the country we're now rotting in the bottom half, 4 points from relegation.

I've resigned myself to the fact that as an Evertonian, i'll never see the things fans of the RS, Man United and even Man City have now seen who are my age. Even one trophy while i'm under 40 would make me happy.

But this is what supporting a club is all about. The bad times, as well as the good. As another poster mentioned a few pages back, you can't just give up on them. No matter how hard you try you will always want to get that fix.

Every clubs fans has a different perspective on "bad times" as well. City have had them, Chelsea have as well. The only club's supporters in the last 20-25 years who have had it as easy as possible are Man United. Take Arsenal for example. Winning the FA Cup is seen as a great achievement from the outside. Coming 4th every season too. Their fans won't see it that way though. They'll never win the league any time soon and they won't win the Champions League. Clubs just have different aims.

Trying to be realistic, I just hope we can steer well clear of the relegation scrap, get to the later rounds of the Europa League and rebuild next season with the already good young players we have and through the sales of some of the valuable assets who will be off in the summer like Mirallas and whoever else leaves.

Being in the older category I can say that the great side of the 80s was allowed to stagnate, once the title in 87 was won we stood still and Liverpool went out and bought players to improve their own stagnating squad

Eventually we needed to do this but the players brought in were just not in the same class as the ones they were supposed to be replacing

Stuart McCall for Peter Reid
Neil McDonald for Gary Stevens
Peter Beagrie for Trevor Steven
Tony Cottee for Adrian Heath
Pat Nevin for Kevin Sheedy
Colin Harvey didn't buy well as our manager

We seem to be stagnating now,two or three players may get us going but those players need to be at least as good as those they either replace or challenge for team places

I think it is harder for the younger supporters who have seen nothing, although in my early days watching Everton

The only thing we won from 1948 -1963, apart from promotion, was the league title in that year,
But even now Everton mean a lot to me,I was roaring my head off last night, while a lot of much younger
supporters hardly opened their mouths and never got their a----s off their seats, but I'm in it for the long run.

I support Everton FC and have done for 60 odd years, I support the team not the trophies although it would be nice to win one now and again.
I may very well close the thread with this. Well said.

I know we're all frustrated, but this is time to dig in and show true colours. Hopefully Royal Blue.

As long as there are Evertonians supporting a team called Everton we will never be just another club. I know how your feeling mate, just read your original post. You know what though, this weekend when we aren't playing you will be fuming and itching for a fix of Everton. By next Saturday you will be frothing at the mouth and on here saying we will smash Palace, christ we may even have a signing in by then to lighten the mood. But trust me, Evertons in your blood so no matter how hard you try to stay away, you need Everton just as much as Everton needs you. It's just the way it is and we have come through darker times than this and we will do again mate.

Lifted my spirits a bit that post mate, been down all day.
Nice one

hang in there everyone...

I would love it not just for all evertonians but in particular for the younger element of our support, to see us win something. I've been fortunate to witness winning the league on the 80s, but sadly the footballing landscape has changed beyond recognition since then. Good management not finances brought reward (forest and villa won titles). This is not a knee jerk reaction, but each passing year goes by when we have tamely gone out of the league and fa cup and I feel saddened that we might never see the club win a trophy again.

;) Regardless of whatever day it is, our weather forecast will always at some point feature grey skies. You should be used to it!

I could never not be bothered, I just can't help being bothered.

Or very bothered as I am at present.

I mean I can put a bad result ot two behind me and just not think about it even though it is nagging away - there is always the next game in football and the optimism returns.

But when you are in the mire as we are at the moment there is actually nothing more bothersome, as it affects you from morning until night.

It is like a bad toothache that won't go away.

And the answer to that is usually extraction.

Its time for this lads!!!!!

Always makes me love Everton that little bit more, I know its a vid that celebrates failure, but it has everything that the current Everton is about.

Sometimes think you're a "wum". Sorry! Cracking Vid. THAT is Everton!!! Down but not forgotten. Down but not beaten.
