Can you video chat between an iPad and a Kindle Fire HD?

I'm guessing the obvious answer is only via the respective Skype apps, if they're installed on each person's tablet.

Facetime etc won't work on the kindle, non??

Skype would be your best bet.

Facetime is an iOS only app.

Cheers for that. I suspected it'd be the case. I'm weighing up a possible birthday present for the bird, and as I'm off for a 6-month holiday with work later in the year I thought about an iPad for easier Facetime etc. But I suppose Skype will still do the trick, so the Kindle Fire HD thingy might still be worthwhile.

She's detests Apple, and I'm a tight-wad so it kind of makes perfect sense to opt for the much cheaper Fire b)

Have you had a look at the Nexus 7?

Depends what you're looking for really.

The Kindle seems to be aimed more at the mature market. If you're into trying out lots of apps then the Nexus 7 would be better, the Kindle is a little wanting in that area.

She's mid-30s, I'm 40 - so I guess we're deffo the 'mature market'. Plus, she's a bit of a technophobe (she thinks anything past Space Invaders is too complicated) so the Fire HD might be up her strasse.

Daughter converses with her mates using Nexus 7, some of them have kindles, ipads, even their phones on wifi. Think there are a few different apps for it now.
