The science behind making Leon Osman captain ? I am simply astounded by this decision and can see no rational reasoning for it ? What does it give the team ? Please someone tell me ? I am not having that there is no one even with these injuries who could take that armband .

I don't understand?

Why shouldn't he be third choice Captain? - Clearly Moyes thinks he possesses the necessary attributes.

His attitude is top notch and when your a goal down he has the ability to nail a worldy in the top corner.

He is one of the most popular and respected players in the dressing to by all accounts.

*Though i am surprised about Cahill

Clearly his captainancy didnt permit him to give a sterling 90 minute shift . Granted he scored a great goal but with Osman its few and far between . What do we have to do to get rid of this bloke ? He must have something on Moyes so big Moyes cannot take any chances . Osman to Moyes was like Harper to Kendall

Every team needs an Osman. Man Utd for instance have Fletcher and O'Shea. Neither would be regarded as world beaters but both can play in various positions and never fail to give their all to the team, and as a result notch up 40 games a season each on a consistent basis. Osman is like that.

As for his captaincy, who are we to judge? Fans get to see 90 minutes of action each week and presumably judge merit on whether the captain shouts a lot and puts in blood and thunder tackles. I dare say the role is a lot more involved than that and involve much unseen work.

If Moyes thinks he's captaincy material then that's good enough for me.

Moyes has said his performances have been below par (only realised that?). I'm guessing giving him the captaincy will give him a boost.

Would be cahill all the way for me though.

Spot on as always!

Spot on as always!

I wouldn't say so.

For the simple reason that Fletcher and O'Shea are very good players who while might not have the flair and skill levels of their team mates provide consistency and back up for them. You never hear about them 2 going missing in matches. Fletcher and O'Shea are the workmanlike glue which helps hold Man U togther when the big players don't deliver.

Osman really doesn't do any of that. And i'd like to know what other posistions he can play in other than central mid in a 4-5-1. Because simply putting a guy out wide right doesn't mean he can play there.

And quite how Moyes thinks making Osman captain is going to suddenly make hima right winger i don't know.

I don't know how many times it has to be said. Great player to have in the squad so he can fill in central midfield against "lesser" teams. But not to play week in week out on the right.

Personally i don't mind him being captain, think the importance of it in a team game like football is overstated, if you're not going to shout and scream and give your all during the match you shouldn't be on the pitch in the first place.

He is the most senior member of that team, simple as that.

But the fact Moyes has made him captain in a side that has Distin, Cahill, [Poor language removed] even Rodwell could be captain at the moment, it says to me that Osman is a first team player, and not a squad player. He did score a good goal today, but then he messed up another simple pass - too inconsistent.

Because Neville, Arteta, Yobo and Jagielka are all injured. Osman is probably 4th or maybe 5th in line.

Sorry mate but none of that makes any sense to me . A captain is supposed to be a leader of men . Someone who given any set of circumstances will never go missing so long as there is time left on the watch . Leon Osman is not a captain , he never was and never will be . I am absolutely astounded he had the armband today . We looked tired today and as much as I hate to make excuses where fixtures are concerned today we looked like this match was 90 minutes too far .

Today was crying out for someone to say " right fcuk this come on lads these are gash lets have grab this game and take it home "

Who got taken off ? Jesus christ Moyes lad :@

Interesting today to see Moyes call Rodwell over and give him instructions, to which he relayed to the rest of the midfield. Surely that's Osman's job?

Exactly . Look at Phil Neville when he has the armband , he is always talking making his presence felt in all quarters . Say what you like about Neville but the fact is he never ever hides . I actually lost sight of Osman today . I couldnt spot him ....granted he is small and that like but I swear he vanished .
