Royal Blue Jersey

Player Valuation: £35m
Some have talked of getting rid (MONTY!!!), looking at bluekipper the majority see him as dispensible. I disagree.

Cahill is a brilliant player. Our performances of late mask his loss, but don't let that fade your memory. Don't settle for mediocrity! Don't think because we're doing well we dont need him, think how we'd be doing even better with him!

He is a goalscorer. They in themselves are rare, but a goalscoring, box-to-box midfielders are like diamonds. Not to mention Cahill has a genuine love for the club and the fans, and he shows it on the pitch; his workrate is pheonomonal. He can get physical when he wants to, and he provides that fiesty bite to our midfield. We have class in other areas like Arteta and Yobo but you feel they don't understand the club as well as this man does.
perhaps to some of you that counts for nothin but not for me. He embodies everything that is good about our club more than any other player.

We can't let a player of such pheonomonal quality leave in the summer, as it's been rumoured. when on form, he surpasses Fernandes, Lescott, AJ, even Arteta as our best player - top 50 European players, Australia's first goals, champions league season top goalscorer & creator.

Too good to lose. So in response to your "can we afford to let him go?" a total, 100% NO!, monty. :D

Yes, of course Cahill is dispensable, we should sell him immediately - together with Lescott, AJ, Arteta and Howard! Just keep BT, Pistone, Tricky - sell the rest.

.........................................

I do get what what Monty was saying about Cahill - it's gratifying that without him we're still generating good results. But still...

cahill seems to have a little more bottle and isnt so easily pushed off the ball when advanced in the opposition box, the fact he is an excellent header of the ball really makes him deadly.

if we are to continue with 4-4-2 cahill can be utilised in the middle as our attack dog when not in possession and then surging forward into space when we are in possession.

im aware that cahill isnt the most gifted passer or the ball, but his ability to get forward and provide steel and danger make him a rather nice extra attacking edge.

we dont have a massive squad, the carling cup is in my eyes a waste of time to us, play the kids if necessary, we should concentrate on Uefa then the FA cup (a lot depends on draws and the outcomes of the CL groups)

id like to see manny snapped up, get M.G.Pedersen and our first choice midfield four would look like

Pedersen Fernandes Cahill Arteta

thats a high quality midfield four, sat in front of our high quality defence, and just behind our high quality attack.

Lads, what I was alluding to, and what you all seem to have taken out of context, is the fact that we may well need money to boost the squad, on source of money is to sell present assets, that is commercial sense, you can't have your cake and eat it. Who would you therefore sell out of our leading lights, Lescott, not a cat in hells chance, Arteta, he's our play maker, AJ, not totally out of the question, Timmy, well we've proven for long periods this term that we can get along without him. IMO that is a fair summary and a possibility that will exist at the of season depending on what and who DM wants to spend money on, Manny is a for instance.

monty makes a good point, if we want to buy all these top class players we have to find the money for it.

lets put it this way, choose -

neville - fernandes - carsley - arteta

neville - cahill - carsley - arteta

which would you prefer if you HAD to choose one of them to play tonight?

I wouldnt sell him for the world and to be fair to th club and moyes since they took over we havent sold our best players albeit the ones who wanted to leave and there heart wasnt in it.

Tim does not pocess the quality of Arteta or Fernandes, but he is tenacious, permently hungry, always willing, gets from box to box, and would die for the club/country in ways either of the two afore mentioned can never be. he also is an important source of golas. Despite what he brings to the team his attitude, personality, and example i beleive is so important to the club and the Moyes Philosphey off the pitch. For him its a simple game go out there with no fear run your heart out, untill you cant give any more, and nine times out of ten you wil be successfull. Also dont forget this guy has experience in world cups, fa cup finals, and the chapions leauge/qualifying for games.

I dont think its a case that we have to have a team of beutifull players like aeteta and fernades we need a blend of quality with hustle and bustle high tempo never say die players.

I think we have be down, kicked, priced out to many times in the past few years that we have become cynical and expect the worst, instead of our god given right as everton supporters to get better.

Why must someone be sold?

Its not like the squad needs much surgery, with the existing Moyes signings and the addition of a quality left winger, manny, and nugent would prove an excellent summer. i would be happy and think we need two of the afore mentioned to improve us next year.

Why must someone be sold?

No one has said he must be sold but commercialism is simply that. If DM wants to expand his squad, we need a new stadium, we all want European football then the possiblity must exist that some one may have to be sold if the right offer came in, if not Timmy would you sell AJ or Mikel, unfortunately mate it is a possible consequence in this harsh old world. No one wants it to happen but, and a big but, it may have to be considered.(y)

With the new tv money plus the (hopefully) high PL finish this season I don't think we need to sell to buy and if we do there are much better people to sell than Cahill.

His value in a 4 man midfield is disputable but he does provide a great option to play with 5 in midfield and is a wonderful source of goals. Plus he loves the club so is very much worth keeping. We need competition across the park and keeping hold of Cahill certainly offers that.

Be brave Bruce, name names(y)

I think Bruce makes a good point that we dont need to sell our top players to bring some money in.

Ok: I can see Beatie going for five million possibly even six with the market set to sky rocket, possibly to Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan or one of the promted clubs spurs were said to be intrested. peple will look at him and say the move just didnt work for him. i think we will recoup much of what we payed for him.

AVDM will go too. The fact he hasnt been a leading light for us wont come into it. I think his reputation wil bring in funds and id be happy with 1.5 mill.

Also we are looking at seriously clearing a fair few million of the wage bill:

Wright.
Beatie.
VDM.
Pistone.

Cumiltively these wages can be redeployed and are prob close to the six million mark annually.

So in terms of transfer fees and saved wages, i think we may have leeway in the market. As Bruce says we will also have the T.V. and Placement money and a few of the clauses from the rooney deal if Man U are successfull in the leauge, fa cup C.L.

Dont froget in terms of incomings and outgoings Moyes has only spent 500.000 above breaking even in his time. I have no worries!
