Why is it that evertonians consistantly mock our most attack minded, free scoring midfielder?

I find it bizarre that people question his inclusion in the starting 11. Without doubt our most dangerous player in the squad. People miss is work rate when he's not in the game. He's constantly niggling at the opposition chaseing down and trying to win the ball back.

If people think our squad is good enough to leave Cahill on the bench then I think they are delusional. Especially with this current batch. Not many goalscoring midfielders in this team and Tim is an absolutley lethal weapon to have.

I think the article tends to lean towards leaving Cahill out. Well personally I think its a daft idea. Get players around him who are decent footballers then he will keep scoring and harassing the opposition. With the likes of Bily, Fellaini and rodwell stepping up they lack creativity no matter what anyone says. They aren't great ball players.

The wings lack any creativity aswell (In the midfield). Cahill would thrive off two good wingers who can put a ball into the box. Like he does at present with Baines.

We still need Cahill imo. We lack any threat without him.

I love Cahill mate. But he needs to sop going on tours with Oz playing in tournaments that don't matter

You've got to use your head and not your heart.

I love Cahill. Who doesn't, really? He's just an ace bloke and boss at what he does.

But just look at last season. The first half he was in the team, and yes he was scoring a lot. But we were at the bottom end of the table. He leaves us to go play for Australia -- a decision I wasn't too pleased with -- and then gets injured, so hardly plays in the second half of the season. But in that time we climbed to 7th.

We had to use newer, less rigid formations and it worked for us. We weren't so predictable and so we managed to actually win a few games. I'll say what I've said all along: Cahill should not play unless we can fit him into a formation that works for us and for him. Just like any player.

You cant question his loyalty, whether its to Everton or Aus, so saying he shouldnt be playing for his country is a bit harsh to be fair, hes a passionate Aussie and im fairly his playing for his country has attracted us some Aussie fans over the years and has certainly helped us get noticed in that part of the World.

I wont have a bad word said about Tim Cahill, the man is a Legend, if only some of the other players in the squad and the football world had his mentality.

God only knows how many points his goals, his effort and his downright will to win has gotten us over the years.

Horses for courses. Against sides like City or Chelsea, Arsenal, United away from home it makes sense to have him in a five man midfield breaking forward to support a lone striker. And as last season proved, when there's zero creativity going forward from midfield/poor movement upfront (chicken or egg issue there like) he can conjure something up out of the wreckage.

If our forwards (whoever they are) hit form this season, I can see Cahill being benched a bit more often and the shape of midfileld being altered. As it stands, though, he's a must inclusion.

THE man has spoken.

If only English players wanted to play for their country as much as Timmy did huh. *I do see both sides of that tale by the way...

I feel bad subbing him on FIFA, the man is a legend.

It will be a sad day when he leaves this club, a day paramount to when Dunc went to Newcastle.

But using this logic, over the past 2 seasons I'm almost positive we have a better PPG average with Fellaini out injured than we do with him on the field since we had better second halves of the season both years and he missed part of the second half both seasons. So do we sit him too? Surely there is something to be said for not holding last season's slow TEAM start against Cahill based on one season's worth of evidence.

Paramount? Not even tantamount for me.

That's no reflection on Cahill though. It was more that Dunc was (and is) my biggest Everton hero, so to have him randomly transferred against our will and his too, was just heartbreaking.

I know Cahill's said he's going to go back to Ausland when he's done, but I've got a niggling feeling he might return here in some capacity.

That's not what I'm saying though.

I'm not saying Cahill is the problem. I'm saying the formation and tactics we use when he plays, is the problem.

It's more of a dig at Moyes, to be honest. He, as one of the most highly paid coaches in the world, should be able to fit Cahill into a formation that works. We used to do it, but now the 4-4-1-1 looks tired.

Maybe it would be better if we had a proper winger on the right, to offer width on both sides with Baines on the left. Whatever the solution is though, all I'm saying is that you've got to use your head and not your heart. It would be awesome to have Cahill in the team all the time, as he bleeds blue, but it has to yield results.

Sorry mate, I can't agree with you on that. The Asian Cup is the direct equivalent of Euro, in saying that, it is not Australia's fault or Cahill's fault that these tournaments are not on FIFA sanctioned dates, that is lack of care by AFC and FIFA. I just don't think it is fair to say it was a tournament that didn't matter, because by that logic, the European championships mean nothing as well.

I actually think the issue of Cahill being in the starting XI will become a non issue. He is 31 now, and is getting on, over the next few seasons its only natural that he will start from the bench in most games and come on often as an impact player and to offer experience. His passing ability, although not terrible by any means, isn't going to offer the creativity we need out of attacking midfielders. So I think he will continue to start and deliver, but he will eventually be used more and more as an impact player.

This would be so much more of a concerning issue if he was 26.

Im with RFUS on this one!

So am i.

I've made my views on Cahill clear on here before.

A legend and i love him, but i don't love the fact he apparently is a guaranteed starter when fot regardless of who we play or what formation.

He has a role, as does every player but its not "play him regardless".

I don't think any of our fans mock Cahill. I think 99.9% of our fans think he is a legend for us
A successful team has a squad of players available for selection dependent on opposition and formation
As stated by others there will be games perfect for Cahill and also games that are not. As much as he gets us goals he really can hinder the way we play and make us very predictable and not free flowing. Utd, arsenal, Chelsea away ect he will be very useful in a 5 man midfield. Wigan at home ect he will make us struggle from free flowing unpredictable football.

It's nothing personel against Cahill it's just football and good management to know when and when not to start with him. SAF is a master at it ( squad rotation) nani, giggs ect don't start every week!?!?
