Farhad Moshiri insists Everton pulled out of Moussa Sissoko deal because they could not 'jeopardise James McCarthy's place'

Farhad Moshiri has claimed that Everton pulled out of a deal to sign Moussa Sissoko because they did not want to jeopardise James McCarthy's position at Goodison Park.

Everton were believed to be close to signing Sissoko for a club-record £30million from Newcastle on deadline day but were pipped to the Frenchman's signature by Tottenham.

But Moshiri, who became Everton's major shareholder in February, said he 'could not proceed with a deal' that would spell trouble for McCarthy, who expressed his desire to leave the club last weekend.

Sissoko ended up signing for Tottenham from Newcastle for £30m on Wednesday

Voted rather he hadn't....But MIGHTILY relieved we didn't spunk the dough on him - even though spurs are lumbered with him.

Skunks would've been lumbered with him, then. Instead they ended up with a £31m profit & 12 new players.

It's more that we were willing to jizz 30 mill up the wall on some no mark at the last minute that I'm worried about, it stunk of desperation. Targets should have been identified and in the bag before any of this last day nonsense. Let him have a season or two at Spurs then wane away his career at a West Brom or some snide French team.

The ECHO has contacted Everton to ascertain the veracity of Moshiri's comments, but the club have yet to comment.

Surely somebody has to be winding up Jim White by pretending to be Moshiri ?

@Moomin, what have you done ?
