Burka ban

Actually no, I'm talking about the new French law.

Difference is the couple in Dubai got arrested and rightly dealt with by the land they did it in. So in the instance a westerner goes against cultural laws in another country, they get dealt with.

Over here, we don't have a law that states the burka is illegal, like Dubai do in terms of public lewdness, so the comparison is invalid -whilst there is no law against it, then the burka is legal.

My point is that we don't cause an uproar that the law in Dubai exists, whilst there's a massive deal being made out of the burka being banned in France.

The difference is respect, in my eyes. I respect the law that exists in Dubai, even though I feel public kissing is no big deal at all. I don't understand why Muslims can't respect the law that now exists in France.

It depends on whether you believe it is a religious or cultural dress I suppose. If the people wearing it believe it is a religious dress then they have every right to be irritated although ultimately they will have to get on with it.

Someone call someone a racist tit, that's exactly what this thread needs.

I think the scots are a tittish race? Is that close enough?

But, jokes aside, Tubey obviously hates black people. The only odd thing really is he seems to hate asians as well and they're sound.

Also, I think we can all agree, that being Muslim is like being a Kopite or a Genesis fan or wanking off to pictures of cartoon dogs with big tits, it's a bit pathetic and you judge them a bit but, in the end, there shouldn't be a law against it and you might still have a sound conversation about how **** public transport is with them. And isn't that all we really want from strangers?

So firstly you stated "No matter our faults, there's one thing westerners don't do - go into foreign lands and enforce our way of life onto their beliefs and rules."

Then say you're actually talking about muslims not accepting the French law.

You're changing your argument.

Unfortunatly its to one which doesn't hold up because you think british people don't disgaree with laws bought into force in this country?

If westerners were allowed to kiss in Dubai on holiday then it got banned you don't think they'd be an outcry? Course there would.

I'm against the obscuring the face via dress for two main reasons. The first is how socially detrimental it is (you simply can't talk to someone wearing this type of thing, in the same way you wouldn't talk to a guy wearing a balaclava whilst dressed in camouflage), but secondly - and perhaps more importantly - I'm against it because Islamic women are often made to wear it against their will, and have no say in the matter.

No matter whether you're pro- or anti-Islam in general, there's no denying that is a very male orientated social way of life, and we have different values in the western world. Therefore, due to there being no practical way to know for certain whether a woman is voluntarily wearing the burka or not, I support the outright ban of this and other similar types of clothing.

It's one of the rare occurrences where a ban actually promotes the free will of the people it affects. Sacrificing the burka will in turn provide greater freedoms for Islamic women.

You're giving that short arsed Sarkozy way too much leeway here. He's doing stuff like this and launching attacks on Libya/Ivory Coast because he's well down in the polls and has an election coming up so he's trying to outflank those parties to the right of his own. This isn't about human rights, far from it.

Probably. I don't like conjecture though so I'm going by what they're actually saying, and it makes sense to me.

There may be underlying national political reasons but that's another story.

Actually, western customs are banned on a semi-regular basis in other countries. There's little outcry, admittedly because westerners rarely have any need to cause an outcry as we really ARE a minority in other countries. For example, jeans are a relative modern invention. They're banned (or the standard version of them are) in a lot of Islamic countries.

The two bold bits are separate issues, but I've explained three or four times now what I think. Your issue seems to be that because the burka isn't already banned then it's wrong to ban it now, which confuses me, but I'm sort of bored of typing now.

I used to sleep with a Burkha wearing girl, but she only liked it up the bum....................................hang on!!!

Oh well that explains her hairy top lip!!!!:o

Nothing wrong with a good bit of authoritarianism.

Ban the Burka
Ban religious controlled schools
Enforce birth control/limit immigration to reduce overpopulation
Raise direct taxes to enable targeted central govt fiscal expenditure on infrastructure
Invade Poland

Hahaha.

I give this discussion no more than 3 more pages before its thankfully locked.

Entrenched positions taken in and dug in.

Nobodies going to change their view, but at least the insults from either side appear less vitriolic.

We should invade the states. We'd get wiped out but think how happy the gun nuts would be as the Kings Regiment hit their eastern shore. Everyone crank with a personal armory would be like 'see, I told ya England was gonna invade.'

The Burka ban is gonna be debated on newsnight now kids.
