Player Valuation: £70m
I'm aware there's a transfers thread but I think there's only one position we really, really need to strengthen and that's No.10

Cahill has been superb for us but only the bluest tint of spectacle will stop him looking finished at this level.

I've always thought that his style of play has hampered ours in terms of flowing passing football and playing through balls for strikers to run on to. When he was scoring regular it may have been worth the sacrifice but now he's not bringing anything to the party.

Moyes comments about building a side round Jelavic indicate he might finally be feeling the same.

We've got a chance to change the way we play and IMO the key to it will be who plays the No.10 position, or as some call it 'in the hole'.

I hope the player for this is strolling round our reserves with a dodgy fade but if he isn't ready I think there's a few players in our price range who can fill the gap.

If Ross isn't going to play regular next season I'd like to see one of the following three come in and do a job for us

Hoolahan
Benayoun
Pienaar

Ste.

Diego ?

Pienaar should be on the left with Baines...he doesnt score enough goals to be played just behind the striker -- neither does Osman....

So someone like a Diego or a young lad who can knock the ball around would be perfect -- if he's good enough he could also play with Barkley in the future.

Would be interesting to see Pienaar getting a good run of games in that position. Clever and creative little player.

The only Diego I can see being in our price range in Maradona. And thats cos we could pay him in bugle.

He doesn't score enough goals because he's out on the wing. I'm sure if he was played behind the striker regularly, his goal tally would be higher.

Agree about Pienaar, though i'd prefer someone with a shot from outside the box. Completely changes how a team defends and creates space for the striker.

Fellaini

In my eyes this takes away from him completely dominating midfields and leads to a bit too much route 1. Also I don't think he's got the eye for a pass or the movement to make the absolute most of Jelavic.

Yeah, I know what you mean....I just thought that, out of the players you mentioned in the OP (Pienaar, Benayoun, Hoolahan) I would go for Pienaar although I have to admit that I haven't watched Hoolahan that much. I don't think that Pienaar can be worse than Cahill in that role and he's a better player than Osman so....worth a try.

Ps: I'm not knocking Cahill coz he's been my favorite player for ages but he's clearly lost something over the past 2 seasons or so.

I agree 100% he's the best option out there IMO. Players like Ross and Baxter should be watching him daily. Not nightly though.
