As a nation we, for the most part make a big thing about being proud of our history but do the venerable members of GOT share this enthusiasm and if not why not?

It was an achievement and it brought what we call improvements all over the world while we basically picked other nations back pockets. It acquired tremendous wealth for the nation which largely landed in the hands of the few, while ordinary people did all the dangerous dirty stuff.

While I feel sorry for the countries we were ghastly to I also remember to feel sorry for the average british citizen who were exoloitedjust as badly. If you harbour anger then it should be for british ruling classes not the british.

Rail and shipping good. Theft and brutality bad.

Another time where empires were important.

From a nationalistic perspective it was fantastic that we ruled the world so to speak. If we didn't conquer the world then someone would have conquered us.

Probably wouldn't be a good thing now invading other countries.

A huge stain on our nation. I note that in Berlin they have a deeply moving structure, commemorating victims of the holocaust. Here we basically have statues commemorating our ‘hitlers’ all over the shop. We truly are the kopites of Europe.

Why just limit this to Britain? Maybe it would have less bias if it was a general examination of imperialism, historical and modern.
