Brilliant young players - what does the future look like?

You are correct there MorgsGoat, two or three will make it, so there. !!!!!!

The problem our yoots are going to have is the same problem at clubs like Chelsea and City, im not saying we are anything like them, but this window we have so far signed 7 players, I know its a strange window cos we wont sell a player for 100m every window, but with the current level of investment in the squad it makes it so much harder for some of them to break through.

Currently we have a space in the first team for a RB, so hopefully Kenny or Connolly can fill that void, also currently Baines is our only LB, so as it stands theres a path to the first team for Robinson, who strangely wasnt taken away.

The other names that people mention as being real prospects, Kieran Dowell for example has just seen his path blocked by Wayne Rooney and soon to be Iceland, Joe Williams a host of many CMs ahead of him.

So when I say none of them will make it, its a lie, they might, but they are gonna have to be utterly exceptional to break through.

Thats just my thinking, its not an attack on the talents of the players, nor an attack on the clubs transfer policy, its just the way it goes really. In the past with the pitiful transfer dealings we have made its been easier for the local lads to break into the first team, Koeman showed last season that he isnt afraid to play young players, so theres hope for them all, plus with Europa we could hopefully have a few games were they will get chances.

TL;DR
Hopefully

Yes a lot of truth there, but I would Davis, already impressed plenty of people, Kenny, and my favourite Liam Walsh, who hasn't even had a sniff of the subs bench will make it at the top level, I hope it is with Everton and coming along is a
young midfielder Beni Banginime who looks like he will follow those. I haven't mentioned Lookman who is very young and already scored in the Premier League and looks an outstanding prospect, Calvert Lewin is another along with Holgate, not to mention Connolly, Robinson and Hewlett the goalkeeper. You were not putting a damper on them, MorsGoat, but saying
how hard it is to make at the top level and I agree with you and a lot of the lads I watch in Everton's youth and U23's
teams will not stay with Everton but a good proportion will make a good living out of the game

TBH I think we over-rate out youth system. Rooney apart, none of our home grown players in the last 20 years went on to do anything except become journeymen players, and that include Ross's career (so far). Some of them may have got a few caps but I don't think that is anything special. There is a massive gap that must be bridged to turn a young talented player into a rounded senior player. For whatever reason most of the youngsters coming through the doors at Goodison fall short in that developmental phase of their career.

We have a good bunch of youngsters now, but the cynic in me says that if just 1 of those goes on to have a top-class career then it they would be batting above average.

You maybe right, evilwebby, but some of the present youngsters at Everton are above average and if they progress with
their learning they might surprise you.

I wouldn't say Silva or Fabregas have lightening speed. would you?

Silva and Fabregas always want the ball and go looking for it, they also know how to tackle and are always in the game.

Dowell has an abundance of skill, a great dribbler, takes great free kicks and corners, but he drifts out of the game for long spells, when he has the ball he is very good but when he loses it he doesn't go looking for the ball, for such a big lad he doesn't get stuck in, this all meant as constructive criticism but to be honest if he doesn't up his work rate he will not progress and that would be a shame with the skill he possess's.

Agreed. Both are more energetic/combative then Dowell.

Now Tom Davies, Kenny, Lookman on the other hand have a real chance.

One striking thing about our transfer policy, and the success of the academy is the number of seemingly great young players. We all know about the 5 lads who won the world cup, and Pickford & Holgate, as well as the track record of Barkley in the different age groups. How far do you think our young players will go? Do you think we can really see a front four of DCL, Lookman, Dowell and Davies at Everton and England level in the future, or is our youth policy more likely to be like a Chelsea style investment and resale strategy?
It's really exciting to look at our players across the top 3 tiers - Firsts, U23 and U20 and it is another great reason to be optimistic.

and then it's the Hope that kills us :)
Probably more like Chelsea but on a lesser scale

The two that look or potentially look good enough are Davies and Lookman. Not convinced by the rest but they're still young.
