In 1958 or 59 I was 11 or 12, about 1.30pm one Saturday I was cutting through the back alleys and roads from 'The Bridge' by the police station
on Walton Hall Park to Goodison. I was going to a reserve home game because I was too young to go to away games on my own. A tall bloke in a dark suit & shirt and tie was in front of me and was walking briskly, when he got to Gwladys Street he looked both ways before crossing, it was then that I saw who it was, I rushed alongside him and said " Hello Mr. Labone " he said " Hello", I couldn't think of anything else to say to him,
so by the time we got to Goodison Road near to the Players entrance I just blurted out "You should be in the first team, you're miles better than
Tommy Jones", he said "That's very nice of you to say so". Over the years I've wondered how he never called me a 'Little Creep' I'll never know.
Brian was a gentleman and his love for the RS was like mine.
