Thanks everyone for the messages you posted in this thread. It is a very sensitive topic and as I said I was unsure whether to share but everyone has approached it with the correct level of respect the incident deserves. Haunting images and ones I hope we never EVER have to see again in this or any other country. RIP to those who died.

I had never heard of this disaster before it really is so so sad.

I found it very difficult to watch the second time through, watching the jubilant faces in the crowd and knowing helplessly what was about to happen really made me feel very sick to the pit of my stomach.

Did the police / fire service ever find out the cause / perpetrator of this?

I literally just, like, can't even find any words...

Rest in Peace to the poor people who died ♥.

Seeing those people celebrating on the pitch made me feel so sick.

A friend of mine just posted this video of the Bradford Football Ground fire (1985) on facebook. I have never seen actual footage of this before. So moving I just had to post. Families going to watch the football and then stuff of nightmares like this and what happened at Hillsborough, just really puts a lot of stuff in perspective. Look after yourselves and always tell those closest to you that you love them

WARNING - Please don't watch this if you are easily upset. It is is painful for me to watch, I just had to share with fellow football fans

Truly horrific. Horrific. Why club's need safety certification.

Also, noticed how the police were catching fire trying to drag people away from the flames.

Terrible to watch

As some of you may know I work in Health and Safety. Many years ago I was a Safety Manager in a Factory and we showed the video to the Fire Marshalls to make them aware of the importance of what they did. The room sat in silence the impact of the video was incredible.

Sadly the Fire could have been prevented as well as the tragic events at Hillsboro. Legislation was only enacted after these two tragic events.

It is both scandalous and disgraceful that both these tragedies were allowed to happen

Thats why we now carry out Risk assessments to prevent accidents rather than waiting for them to happen ( Its too late then)

Anyway next time you hear people trivialise Health and Safety take time to reflect on events like these

RIP the poor people who lost their lives in both these tragic events

Thanks Neville. I guess at least those poor people's deaths have prevented further loss of life in the future and improved safety standards across the country. That is the only small (very small) positive you can take. Hmm winning the league or cup may seem like life and death sometimes to fans, but truly, Shankly was wrong...there are more important things in life.
