Boxing

Groves mate. It would be as easy as the Eubank fight . Eddie Hearn feeding smith a diet of bums and his regular inactivity does not help him either . Hearns style of promoting means most of his ‘stars’ fall short on the big stage due to poor fights on the way up .

same here. and to be fair groves is there for the taking. any really decent super middle would beat groves. lets face it, an absurdly useless Eubank, got closer than you would think, with the eubanks claiming a victory. if he had used any sort of actual boxing he might of nicked it. what I'm getting at is a windmilling eubank was able to connect and hit groves clean throughout the fight.

smith is one dimensional, always looking for the body shots, infact smith and eubanks careers look kinda similar, and I think groves out jabs him and stays at distance, anytime they fight on the inside groves will just tie him up , like he did eubank.

its actually quite a weak division if groves and degale (was) our top lads.

yeah it’s not the best division especially since Jack moved up .

Smith is a much better boxer than Eubank imo. Smith has a good jab, solid jab when he uses it. He’s got good footwork on him...much better than Eubank. He knows how to use his range(it’s his key asset imo) and he can control the range and knows how to draw a man into his punches. He knows how to keep distance and close in on his oppenants and doesn’t throw wild punches. He’s calm when he fights and knows how to pounce on an oppenant when they are hurt. Plus he had a amateur back ground and done well in the amateurs. I think he’s a solid fighter but dunno if he’s world class, jury still out on him. I know he beat Skoland in his last fight but it wasn’t the prettiest and looked sluggish at times.

He needs to improve on the level of fighters he’s fought though. I’d like to see him fight Jamie Cox. That would be a great domestic tear up.

I cant take him seriously due to the calibre of fights and long lays off's he's had.

he may just get lucky and be in the right fight at the right time having said that, but the brahmer fight would of been a really needed tune up fight before facing groves. as it is, he may be facing groves who will be coming back off a huge injury for a boxer, anything shoulder related and your toast really. well never the same as the shoulder will be weaker after being dis-located.

smith might just win it afterall, thinking about the circumstances.

I think smith v eubank would be a more entertaining final

It’s a weird division at the minute, it’s got some big name fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez jr., Peter Quillin, DeGale, Andre Dirrell, Groves and a couple of others. Imo a lot of those ain’t elite fighters, some world class but you never think of them as elite. Jury is still out on Ramirez and Benevidez at the minute.

I understand what your saying and totally agree about the calibre of fighters he’s fought. It’s not the best resume but he can only fight what’s been put in front of him. I think the problem with him, imo, is he was built up by sky and Hearn early on his career as this wrecking machine. Since then it’s like he’s stagnated due to injuries and oppenants been changed/injuries. He’s had bad luck as of late.

Smith vs Groves would be a very interesting match up and would make for a cracking fight.

The build up would be good between McGuigan and Gallagher, they absolute dispise each other if I remember correctly. Plus McGuigan got one up on him, in the Frampton vs Quigg fight.
