The real story of last night, of course, is the dramatic fall from grace of

Any comment today, Poonster?
Thought it last night with a few cans gurgling about and am even more sure of it now, it was fixed for the trilogy, they were hyping the April bout as the fight of the year last night - it wasn't! And I saw Chris jnr toppled twice last night with shots and a drag down that would have bounced off his old man. And it wasn't even the most contentious thing of the night, the Assuman call in the main support bout was one of the worst bits of refereeing I can remember in boxing (and there's been a few!)
I saw jnr pull shots away when he was countering Conor. It was and always has been about money. This year for them two has been world class, not the fights, not the legacy, not the audience, but the promotion has been dynamite.
They've hyped a spectacle built from animosity at the top of the game from over 30 years ago into two sell outs and millions of pounds from two very average boxers.
Nigel would and did travel anywhere to box anyone, turn up and put on a show. If Conor is anything like he'll start getting active and acquire a belt. I'm not convinced. Everyone could see Nigel was Armageddon within his first 5 pro fights. Conor is 25 (pro fights) in and I don't see anything world beating.
Chris jnr is out of options, 36 years old, 39 fights under his belt, and has had an ok career, a few belts, a few big match ups, but nothing you'd point to and call superstar spectacular. I realise fighters are only as good as their era, and maybe it's a dearth in options and talent that has constrained the possibilities currently. There's easier money in sport than being punched in the face for a living. Those that loved it stand out by miles.
