Boxing

No Everton, no radio, no golf, snookers finished for a couple of hours. Ended up reading some boxing history, someone posted a wwf pic about some president sort who's last name is Tunney, which struck a chime. So was looking into the fight history of Gene Tunney. One of his adversaries was a man named Harry Greb, turns out Greb holds a few records, not least 45 bouts in a calendar year winning the lot. A career of 299 fights. Was checking who the Everton players could have seen at the garden in new york in 61 and it was Archie 'The Mongoose' Moore. 220 bouts. Thing is, back in the really bad old days (Grebs) gloves were dodgy, refs were pished up, judges were paid off, and some fights went 20 rounds.
Greb had to have his right eye removed and a glass one replaced it, the year he retired because of trauma received through his career, only he then signed up to surgery to correct damage to his nose and respiratory tract and died on the table. He was 32.
Not a lot of happy tales in the boxing game from the early 20th century.

I read the first few words to the theme tune of Only Fools
