Boxing

Love how all the hipsters just refuse to accept that someone everyone else thinks is dead good is actually dead good. Loads of people saying he'd get beat and then saying he was fighting a has been. Embarrassing really.

I'm somewhere in between. Watched him all the way back at the 2012 Olympics and always hoped he'd do well, but you don't know until you know. It's all well and good winning easy fights but until you push yourself and take down a big name, it's hard to gauge where you're truly at. It's like being ace in the Dutch league; you can't truly tell an Alfonso Alves from an Eriksen until they cut their teeth at a higher level.

He's done that today, for sure. The question isn't if he's good, is has to be how good is he. There are still question marks there, but hopefully he'll answer those in his next fights. I'm sure he's learned a lot today and will continue to improve.

His footwork and chin are suspect to say the least like.

His heart, though, is no longer in question.

If I were him, I'd take one or two gimme fights before taking on Wilder or Fury; the former is risky due to power and technique, the latter because he's just a big awkward goon spoiler who needs nous as well as power.

There are some bitter people in here, if Joshua knocked out fury in the first round people would be lining up their excuses. Great to see a British heavyweight champion winning in an exciting fight.

I think it's just a reaction to the perceived stage management of Joshua. It does feel extremely phony and done for marketing purposes.

But as a fighter, yeah, it's very churlish to take anything away from him for that achievement tonight.
