Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng wants to return to the German league by joining Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old move to City last summer on a five-year deal from Hamburg but has become frustrated at Eastlands.

He wants to play at centre-back and not the right-back slot he usually occupies for City. He said: "It is all about whether I am released. I hope it works.

"Bayern are bigger than City, they are one of the top six teams in Europe. To play for them would be an honour."

A stumbling block over any deal could be the fee for Boateng, whose first season at City was disrupted by injury and limited him to 24 appearances.

His last game for City was on 2 March in the FA Cup fifth round victory over Aston Villa.

Despite City going on to lift the Cup and qualify for the Champions League, Boateng is keen to leave in order to improve his international prospects with Germany.

"I would like to go to Munich. On my side everything is clear," said Boateng.

"I have already told [City manager] Roberto Mancini that I want to play in central defence and not at full-back.

"Bayern have indicated I will play in the centre. To play there regularly is important for me because I will have a better chance of playing in the national team."

You'd wish all footballers said it how it is during silly season.

Footballers just don't like City huh?

Does anyone?

You could call me bitter, but I havn't liked them since they got gifted a shiny new Stadium.

I mean, lets face it, if Liverpool ever won the right to host the Commonwealth Games, the shiny new stadium the council would build to host it would be going straight to the RS. We wouldn't get a snif.

West Ham are just as jammy, but at least they had to fight for theirs.

If he was our Player and he said that about our club, I'd be fuming. However, it's city and I can't stand them so I find it quite funny.

You're not bitter mate. They've been gifted so much and it's gone to their heads. I can say a good word about them.

Its intresting to see a bit of a cycle here, players turning up for a year or two then heading of after getting a packet for a couple of years - Tevez, Boateng or going out on loan for not getting a sniff - Adebeyor, Bellemy, Onhua, Sant Cruz etc.

Bad meffs all round.

Can you blame them?

Hypothetical: "Mr Neiler, we'd like to offer you a job. We're going to double your salary and ask half as much of you. Does that sound good?"

When i look at City play it never looks like their having any fun, even Chelsea have a bit of spirit about them. City are just a team of souless teds, functionaly trying to take the enjoyment and equity out of football. They would do well to snap up Moyesy or a coach who will instill and build something.
