I've never been but I've been contemplating a visit myself and have heard good things about this place:

Hotel Esplendor Plaza Francia, seems like a cool little hotel in Recoleta, which is supposed to be one of the nicest neighborhoods in town. Don't know your budget but it's 120 USD per night.

Also, do some research on "blue dollars" and do your exchanges on the blue market for much better exchange rate (technically illegal, but most places--from what I understand--will gladly buy dollars/euros from you at a rate much better than the legal bank rate).

Anyone else have this weird nagging feeling that they are actually from Buenos Aires?

Just me? Okay, carry on.

Been to BA but not the derby. I'd stay in Palermo if I were you. It's a couple of miles from the centre but has a much more Latin American feel (and lots of great bars and restaurants). The centre is much more European in feel.

what hotel did you stay in mate ?

I stayed in the centre. Clarridge Hotel. Quite posh but it was my honeymoon. When I go again, I'll stay somewhere in Palermo, definitely. The Only trouble with Palermo is that it's north-west of the city centre and Boca's ground is south but it's really not that far and it's very handy for the River Plate stadium. Walking distance.

I think away fans are still banned from all matches, which will dampen the atmosphere a little bit.

The Superclassico has been atop my bucket list for years now, and I'm saving it for a bumper retirement trip to Argentina. I'm planning on staying for a month of pure footballing porn.

Was in BA 10 years ago, probably irrelevant after such a long time but stayed in a hostel called Hostel Clan. Went to a River match but not the derby unfortunately (all the more reason to go back). Most hotels and hostels should be able to organise a ticket to the match for you, there are organised tours to all matches IIRC. They'll pick you up from the hotel and bus you there. If you want to do it independently they would probably be able to tell you how to do that too.

From my experience I would agree with Clint that Palermo is probably the nicest area to stay in, along with Recoleta. I stayed in Centro which was ok too.
