Blues who should've won something here

Roydo, there's a book in there about Gordon surely, apparently the players thought the world of him, even McKenzie,a couple I heard over the years were one of the players plucked up the courage to ask for a rise so knocked on Lee's office, goes in and Gordon is in his chair at his desk,he's listening to the player making his case for a rise whilst rocking back in his chair,as they are going into detail Gordon goes over backwards and the Lee moon is rising, the story went that the player ran out of the boss's office in bulk laughing himself and never raised the subject again! He also allegedly said on Radio City when we were drawn against Dukla Prague"That's a good draw,I've never been to Dukla, always wanted to visit that place"lol

Haha! McKenzie was involved in the story I read. EFC were playing the Czech national side in Egypt, all the local journos spoke French, so DM translated.

"Are you pleased to be in Africa?"
Lee. "Were not in Africa, we are in Egypt"
DM " The boss is very happy to be here"

"What do you know of the Czech team?"
Lee "Nothing. Never seen them"
DM "He says they are a very good side. It will be a test for us"

Brilliant.

Defo Mick Lyons.

Apropos of not much: BT Sport had a Everton v Liverpool Rivalries programme on this week and there was one from 1980 (the Varadi derby). Hodge was in goal and Jimmy Case lunged in after he collected the ball. Mick's right in there stamping down on Case like he just found a rat in an alleyway (he had). Souness dashes over and smacks Mick on the head from behind, Mick wields round and smacks the scumbag in the kisser and goes after McDermott for good measure.

Feller was a legend.
One of the local lads who never, ever let us down, even if he was having a bad game,he never, ever hid and gave 100% week in week out, loved Big Mick me:)

There's an alleged story about Gordon Lee from his days at Newcastle... And the skunks are on the coach going to an away game with Super Mac having been called up to the England squad. Allegedly GL expressed an opinion from the front of the bus that players with foreign sounding names shouldn't be allowed to play for England - inferring that MacDonald should play for Scotland - when some wag on the back seat allegedly piped up with... " how many times did you play for China boss?"
Cue fuming from GL. :)

Spot on mate. Crocky's finest. A defeat hurt him as much as any supporter, because he was (and is) one.
Do you remember the derby at the pit Dave when he lobbed Georgie Wood for an oggie at the Kop,?would have crushed many a man,he went on and was our man of the match led us to what was at the time a very creditable 2-2 draw.

...it's not so much that these players should've won something, more a case that you would like to have seen them win something. I'm not a fan of Mick Lyons but can understand the affinity some fans have with him. For me, Tim Cahill is a much more deserving case, tremendous servant with real quality and commitment. You were rarely let down by a Tim Cahill performance.

So how do people view Lee's time in charge?
Was he a much maligned manager who with a bit of luck could have achieved a place in history,or as the dour persona
that he was often portrayed as?

Did Dave Hickson ever win anything with us? If not he should've had a medal somewhere along the line.

Nearest he got to winning anything was our second place and promotion from the 2nd Division in 1953-4. We lost out on goal average to Leicester.
