I had to rub my eyes... Had a chuckle then started to think

DID you see what Ellis Short, chairman of Sunderland, said recently? 'We are not happy with finishing 13th, not happy at all'. How refreshing.
Here at Stoke we appear to be happy to reach 40 points and safety. Anything more is a bonus. This angers me, as I am convinced with the players we have, used in a positive manner, instead of playing with fear, at even some of the 'lower' grounds, we could do so much better.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH: Everton players celebrate a goal at the Britannia Stadium in May. Letter writer B W Johnson says the Toffees are a good benchmark for the standards the Potters should be aiming for next season, given their comparable squads.
The template is Everton. It is known they have very little money, yet they seem to be the 'best of the rest', season after season.
Everton have no better team than Stoke, but what they do have is a first-class manager.

I'm sure I/we have not got blue tinted glasses stuck to our faces to believe our squad/team is better than stoke's...or have we??

We're definitely a step higher in talent, not to mention history. And yeah we're a role model club for smaller ones to emulate, no problem with that.

But who's template are we trying to emulate?

Name the players from the Stoke side you would have in the Everton team

I cant think of one

HAHA. only maybe one of the CB's from Stoke would get near our side. They are an awful team.

Moyes said Barcelona a few years back....I kid you not.

Almost amusing that.
naturally he backs his own team. But not recognising our teams talent...thats just laughable.
This agains shows how respected our Moyes is

People need to start realising that plucky little Everton of the 90's who barely evaded relegation is long gone. We have a very good side and as recent seasons show we've been able to mix it up with the best of them. The gap between us and Liverpool in terms of on the pitch quality is so small and we maybe even edge it when you write down our first XI compared to theirs (Although I wish we'd start proving it in the derby's ffs) although they have the added advantage of being able to spunk loads of money up the wall every season, and you know one time they'll get it right. We are a miles better side than Stoke. Miles. When we're not being gash that is.

Oh Everton.

If we had only half of the spending power of teams like Liverpool, Spurs etc we'd be right up there. No other club could do what we do with our lack of funding. Not moaning though, tbh whilst money would be fantastic, I'm a bit of a sado masachist when it comes to Everton. I like the emotional rollercoaster and what they put us through.

Agree with what your saying there efcnick. I think the problem with us is not having funds makes it really hard for us to get those top game changing/winning players that really make the difference from being nearly men to serious contenders.

I think are back 7 players (baring being a bit weak at RB) are comparable to the top teams. It's the wings the no.10 and striker that make the difference and we'v always tended to fall short in 3 of those... But they are the ones who cost the cash.

We finally have the striker and hopefully the LW if we can pienaar back. If between Barkley naismith maybe Fellaini we can sort that No.10 posistion and add a quality RW (Donovan?) I really think we would have all the pieces of a excellent X11

I really think our first eleven with Pienaar should be challenging for the title, there are excellent, truly excellent players that play as a unified team there.

Two things hold us back, one which everyone agrees on which is depth, the other everyone disagrees with eachother on, David Moyes.

Really Longo? Really?!

I think we are good enough (if we sort our horrific starts out) to at least be regular contenders for the top 6 and with a few slip ups from other sides maybe be contenders for the top 4. But we could also be regular contenders for 10th place.

It could go either way with Everton. Always has.
