Player Valuation: £40m
Whilst nobody would wish injuries on to our key players, I feel that there could be some benefits to the situation.

If we hadn't lost Jags then maybe Heitinga would still be labouring in midfield or at full back. Hibbert wouldn't have been called up at centreback, for which he may finally have won over a large proportion of the fans. And Coleman probably wouldn't have got the game time that he's had in the league to show what he can do.

If Neville hadn't picked up an injury then Fellaini would most likely still be playing in a more advanced role rather than his preferred midfield anchor position, where he has arguably become our player of the season.

If Arteta hadn't suffered such a long spell on the sidelines then perhaps Pienaar wouldn't have taken on the onus of being our main creative outlet- a responsibility that has caused him to have far more of an impact on games and to up his goalscoring ratio. We may well have not brought Donovan in if Arteta, Gosling and Osman had remained fit.

If all of our strikers hadn't suffered some form of injury or another, and if we had two fit forwards available at any one time, we possibly would have switched to a 4-4-2 formation. In which case we might not have discovered the fluid midfield balance that we're currently enjoying, with Bily, Donovan and Pienaar interchanging.

If we hadn't suffered such adversity, some players may have coasted through this season rather than pushing themselves, especially on the back of reaching Wembley last year.

In seasons past we've tended to fall away in the league come March time, as fatigue takes it's toll on a small squad. This season could be quite the opposite. We're currently about 10 points away from the European places and pushing the top teams all the way even without all our best players. Having Arteta, Jagielka, Yakubu, Anichebe, Vaughan, Rodwell, Gosling, Neville and Yobo back and, more importantly fresh, at this stage of the season, could see us charge up the table to claim a European place.

In another month's time, the concern for Moyes will be how he keeps everyone happy. Seeing a bench last weekend of Nash, Senderos, Coleman, Arteta, Bily, Vaughan and Anichebe was very pleasing. Add Jags, Yakubu, Rodwell, Gosling and Yobo in to that we start to look very strong.

Really good well thought out concept. Some of these have been blessings, but it's taken us until now, when the players who were injured were back and the players were took their places performed well, to realise this. Good stuff.

Good points. I would also add that if Jags hadnt got injured then City may well have gone for him instead of Lescott, given that he was a better player than him.

Some good points, I really do think we'll push on now, but europe may be too much to ask for. We will challenge though!

P.S. Hibbert is fookin' awesome compared to me! or Alec Cleland or Marc Hottiger!

Stop hating The Shoe!

This.

With bells on.

Luckiest thing that has happened to us in many a year. Providing Citeh don't try to buy him this summer that is. If Lescott was worth £24m, Jags is worth £48m.

Good post mate. Of course what it does, in turn, is bring up the question of why it took injuries to get them in the team/in their best positions. Granted, that's partly the nature of football and manager's get an eye opener every now and then. But It took Moyes a while to switch Pienaar to CM even after his superb Confed Cup appearances there in the summer. And Fellaini was a square peg in a round hole for far too long before being handed the role he had at Liege. Although I'd give the benfefit of doubt to Moyes on Coleman: he had him lined up in the summer for bigger things but the lad's toe infection destroyed that plan.

Not hating him. That's the only way to see an improvement in our team. Moyes won't play anyone else if hibbert is fit, and the sad part is there are more deserving player available.
Don't you want to see us play better?

Great post, except i disagree on 1 thing. Pienaar is our player of the season. he stepped up to the plate since Arteta got injured. Only in the last month has Fellaini started to play well. Pienaars done it all season.

coleman has looked our best attacking option at rb but he will not get gametime as he is probably 5th choice rb.
nev and hibbert seem to be moyes love childs as does cahill recently and untl that changes i will moan about moyes.

Nev coming back had made a load of diffrance. He leadership skills have really helped.
Cahill was the best player against Sunderland. An now Artetas back, he'll get back in the goals. As 90% of all Cahills goals for Everton have come while Arteta was on the pitch.

I agree there are better right backs than Hibbo, but he's not that bad, and there's always someone ready to **** him off! Of course I want to see us play better, and we are improving season by season.

It's really simple, if he's good enough and convince us then he'll get the same reception as Felli. It's all about his ability really.
