Owners of Blackpool FC, Owen and Karl Oyston, have launched a libel case against a supporters’ online forum and are seeking £150,000 of damages.

According to The Guardian, papers were served last week after six derogatory comments about the pair were made on the Back Henry Street website last year.

A spokesman for the club has confirmed that the Oystons are taking legal action but has refused to make any further comment.

However, a notice published on Back Henry Street gave more details, it said: “To clear up any rumours, on Thursday 5 February 2015, Back Henry Street was served papers from the court, relating to the Oystons’ and Blackpool Football Club’s intent to seek damages for six allegedly defamatory comments made on the site in 2014, limited collectively at £150k.

“For obvious reasons, we can not go into any more detail at this time. Thank you for your continued support.”

Organisers of the forum have appealed for supporters to help fund their legal costs.

The statement continued: “A message board is perhaps the greatest bastion of free speech and that is a right that can never be threatened,”

“It is not down to just one person to fight the Oystons, it is our collective duty.”

Last week, supporter David Ragozzino was given 21 days to respond to a claim for £150k damages from the club after he posted a message on the Another View From the Tower website.

Let's hope Bill doesn't get any ideas...

Might be time to consider wiping the "Everton board" thread from the main forum..

Or getting hold of Ian Hislops barristers number.

Nah, he didn't launch legal action after that "secretly" recorded interview or the Photoshopping Bill thread of yore

Its not libel if it can be proven its true.

It is libel if its proven it wasn't true and even worse you knew it wasn't (damages go up in the latter case).

Might be time to consider wiping the "Everton board" thread from the main forum..

To win a case you need to do more than show what's written is wrong, you also need to show that it " has caused or is likely to cause serious harm to the reputation of the claimant."

If this goes the owners way, I'd suggest Davek goes into hiding for a few months.

I don't think Davek can be prosecuted for telling the truth, you never know though.

"Mr Davek you stand acussed of making libellous statements about Mr William Pinnochio Kenwright." It is alledged you have called Mr Kenwright a liar,a fraud, and a charlatan on an internet forum for nerds." "Have you anything to say in your defence?"

"Well your honour, the money is ringfenced,Kirkby, watch this space, another 3 interested parties."

'Case dismissed costs to be paid by Vibrac"

"Mr Kenwright"

"Yes your honour"

"Is it raining outside?"

"No your honour, it's 25 degrees in the shade and the sun is cracking the flags.'

"Clerk"

"Yes your honour"

"Pass me my raincoat, umbrella, and wellington boots please."
