Birmingham are giving a trial to United States international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya.

Alejandro Bedoya: A US international
Bedoya, 23, has spent the last two years in Sweden with Orebro SK and earned his first international start against Brazil last August after missing out on USA's World Cup 2010 squad.

The midfielder will hope to earn himself a permanent contract, with the club who took his US international team-mate Edson Buddle on trial before the striker joined Bundesliga.2 side Ingolstadt.

''I am very happy and grateful about this opportunity,'' Bedoya told his club's official website. ''It will increase my experience, motivation and confidence for the future.

''Hopefully I can prove I have the qualities to convince, but most importantly it gives me a chance to see where I stand compared with some of the best players in the best league in the world.''

Orebro sporting director Magnus Skoldmark admitted the interest from abroad is flattering.

He said: "It's fun that a Premier League side shows interest for one of our players, it shows that we have a good professional environment."

Holden in a bottle ladies and gents.. Kid has skill, needs good mentoring.

Wish we here at EFC would get a look in on these young (Cheap) Americans.

Lets buy all the yanks!

I'm not suggesting that at all mate.. I'm well aware that we are way behind in player development..

That said, a blind man can see that the Stuart Holden deal at Bolton was a steal, him being one of the most consistent midfield players in the prem all year..

Bedoya, shows signs of class down.. Wait for it.... The Right Flank!!

Just an observation.

I hope he does well too - honestly, I think the rough pace of the EPL will make or break him. Watching him play for the Nats is painful as he has talent, but he doesn't quite know what to do with it. I hope he makes the cut - he definitely has the potential.

The Yanks are up and coming folks!!!! Whee! Bradley, Jones, Dempsey, Holden, and now Bedoya! So cool.

If there's any (DIRT cheap) American I could pick for Everton to have their eye on it's Diskerud - the kid has some talent and plays the wings!

I've said all along with our budget situation we should be better at raiding tier 2 national teams and MLS. If Andy Najar doesn't sign for a bigger club in Europe towards the end of his DC United contract (barring injuries) I'll eat my shoe. Seattle has some interesting youngsters. Tim Ream. And if Omar Gonzales can get his act together I see good things for him too. But he's like Bedoya in my opinion - a crapshoot right now. I was very glad to see Zakuani training with us last year - we should be doing more of that.

Anyhow - I'm off on a tangent, but Bedoya could be another sign of things to come! We won't be behind in player development for long (minus the forward situation - that's still dire).
