Billy was playing way to high up the pitch to be playing left-back and he wasn't doing any defending either there was another player behind him as well

True, it may of been a 5-3-2 with billy playing wing-back but he was consistently very high up the pitch

Ok, will give you that. But he did seem as if he was holding back and there always seemed to be a player infront of him. I didnt even see him touch the ball to be honest. I was busy for most of the 1st half, so was half watching and then I went out for the 2nd.

They were playing against Liechtenstein - maybe he was indeed playing as LB, with so poor opposition. Also, don't forget that Zhirkov (who was absent today) is playing as LB for Russia, despite being more of a winger and was playing mostly as winger for CSKA Moscow.
Sky's formation for international games are usually incorrect, but actually the one from this game looks very probable.
Russia is playing at Wales on wednesday, formation used there will tell us much more about Billy's position.

right end this now

1. was there a player behind him for the majority of the game?

2. was there a player in front of him the majority of the game?

3. did he play on the left had side of the afore mentioned pitch?

4.maybe on occasions did he wonder about the pitch maybe on the right? and then drift back onto the left to take up his usuall role?

5. Billy is king of the wing _ discuss??????????!!

Billy looked like he was playing left midfield which is his best position as he is an attacking/creative player who would be wasted at left-back
