Big Nev

Here you go mate. About 6 minutes 15sec you get to see a replay of that save (not the best of angles to see it)

I appreciate that mate, Plaid couldn't put out a more Wales-biased highlight reel, it almost looked competitive. They battered us and I even remember Nev outside his box tackling players as they burst through like a sweeper-keeper.

It was a crazy display, I'd forgotten how nasty that kick on The Rat was by Buchold.

Thats my point, im not doubting how great he was for 3 years and i take what people have said from that based on what everyone says.
But......is 3-4 years enough to be classed world class?
It wasn't 3-4 years it was easily '83-'89. He was the best goalkeeper in the world during that period. If being the best in the world in your position isn't "world-class" then what is?

Come off it mate. You aren’t old enough, that’s fine. But don’t take the piss out of people who remember how good he was.

I think you are a decent poster, but I’d genuinely ban you for some of your guff in this thread.

You could tell he was frustrated for a lot of the early 90's, the team/club regression, chopping and changing, boom and bust of new dawns and frankly a lack of quality in the team - Joe coming in reignited him he was brilliant in that stint and a massive leader - Joe knew how to get the best out of him..

Without fail he always commanded his box and marshaled the back line, could also catch airplanes and gave 0 respect to any player or any team - 80s or 90s.

Was also brilliant for Wales in that time.
If you read Joe Royles autobiography there's a chapter about Southall and its not all complimentary. Coupled with Southall writing a diary of Royles last season at the club which wasn't very complimentary at times either there was certainly tension between the 2 so I'm not sure Royle did get the best out of him especially as he was looking actively to replace him with Mark Schwarzer

The last couple of weeks i've been watching season reviews of the early 90s teams (91/92, 92/93, 93/94, 94/95)

All 3 seasons there are at least 5 or 6 times were Big Nev gets completely done and you would expect even a standard level goalkeeper to save.

It got me thinking, i was pretty much a fan from 94 and my memory's of Southall were obviously the Cup Final, but after that nothing hugely memorable.

And judging by my small snippets I've got from the season reviews, he's either not great, not bothered or at least on the decline in the early 90s

So without obviously seeing the mid 80s Southall (84-88) was he only good for a small amount of his Everton career and possibly below par the rest?

I have my shield and hat ready for the insults and fear i may get accused of going a bit Talksport, but its a genuine question
Best there ever was to do it.

Unmatched in his pomp.

Put it this way, only four keepers ever have won the fwa player of the year, and big Nev was the last keeper to win that.
