Big heads and egos

I was having a think about Everton in comparison to other teams and to me Everton seem ego-less for lack of a better word. To use an example i'll pick Liverpool FOOTBALL CLUB, big name in football, loads of media coverage, fans think they should be winning the league trophies etc, B-rod giving it the big i am and we are etc. Compared to Everton, i think of us as a sleeping giant, roll back the clock we were the bollocks but we're realistic about where we are as a club, we turn up, work hard and try to progress, we're very industrial. The media don't give us our deserved attention but i prefer that as it's proper boss when we turn over the Sky Six.

It got me thinking of why we're like that as a club, Moyes is very good at not getting carried away infront of the cameras, he knows the score, one game at a time. The players seem like a good bunch, i sense there is excellent team spirit in the camp and overall i think players enjoy plying their trade at our family club, i got wondering about the big ego's in camp, i'm not confusing having character for a big head i mean just outright bad atitudes. Anichebe is a good example, i've heard/read he's hard work at Everton, i've witnessed his attitude first hand and disliked him for it, that said he's been banging them in recently and think if he carries on winning over the fans (me included as i'm critical of him) i think he might actually enjoy his footie career. Drenthe came, had the talent and proved to be a top tit head and that was that he was out the door, a few players have done similar and all got ****ed off.

Other than Victor, our lads come across as a top bunch of talented, hard working players and i love them for it, i loved it when Jelavic and Fellaini celebrated vs Utd, same again last night when Mirallas scored, Naisy was right over there and the team ethic looked brilliant. Realistically, we've got some class players who all come across as being really humble lads, Baines could've been a tit this transfer window if he fancied it and being a big name in English football would've got the media showcase involved, we've seen it happen with Dempsey, Tevez, Rooney, RVP etc over the years but it seems rare at our club.

I really like the current Everton in terms of the team and manager (not the board ffs and keep that stuff in its own thread please) because of how we go about or business and ofcourse the quality team Moyes has built over the years, the only thing i get pissed about is lack of investment really but that's for another thread.

Does anyone agree or have anything to add?

was out with a couple of liverpool fans at the weekend and they both said it was obvious we had a fantastic team spirit - Moyes (and particularly Neville) work hard to make sure the dressing room is a good one!

I'll also add that we've got some great pro's at the club and i imagine the likes of Neville, Howard, Osman, Jags, Distin and Hibbert wouldn't let people come in and mess up the group feeling that's been built

You need some ego, or self confidence.

Could call it ego. Or you could call it a winning mentality.

Drogba is a great example of a player who was an absolute bell sometimes, ego the size of Mars. But the feller could win you a match single handedly.

It gets you over the finishing line.

So none of us would have a Drogba, RVP, etc because of their egos?

Fair dos.

That's what i meant to ask tbh mate glad you reminded me, if we were to sign a world class player with an ego, dya reckon he would get his head wobbled by Moyes and the Senior players or told to do one? Drenthe had class but was obviously nuts and myself personally i say no player is bigger then the club and if a player is disruptive in one way or another he should be out the door.

You need some ego, or self confidence.

Once again sorry for not being clear, that's what i meant by this 'i'm not confusing having character for a big head i mean just outright bad atitudes', i should've worded it better, despite that i don't think it's an issue for us really, our players seem really confident in themselves and as a team, clearly they have personal targets like getting european football but i think each player understands that they can be the best player in the world but won't be able to display their class unless each other team member carries out their duty!

I'd class Anichebe as more of a whinger/moaner than a big time charlie, and he seems to aim most of his whinging at the referee rather than anyone else.

He apparently threw his dummy out because a potential move to Hull was being blocked. The lad was whinging because he knew he would get first team football at Hull and not at Everton, it wasn't because he thought he was too good for Everton.

I think Moyes is very careful about buying players with a certain attitude/mentality and he nurtures that mentality at the club.

Good post mate

On big vic I've always thought he comes across well in his interviews actually

as far as i can tell he gets stick because he allegedly threw his toys out his pram over the Hull move but none of us on here know him, he might be sound

oh and because he never celebrates
