Big BIG games

The 1-0 against United in '05 is one of my favourites. I was convinced we'd get fourth after that game, and to do it with a Duncan Ferguson header was perfect.

There's only one that stands out above all others and that's Bayern. Oh how I dream of more days and nights like that one, Goodison was alive, it was crackling, I was in the old enclosure that night and I was completely lifted off my feet and moved up and down and backwards and forwards across the steps on numerous occasions. The official attendance was about 50,000 but I've been in there at derby matches when it was much more and the crush was never like that. I remember the sinking feeling in my stomach when they scored and said as much to the lads I was with and I'll never forget this random fella I didn't know from Adam turning to me saying don't worry mate we'll beat these. What a second half, we came out like men possessed and the crowd fed of it. Andy Gray was a giant among footballers that night and we started to give them a taste of their own medicine, physically I mean. Gray went up for a challenge with their centre half and done him, when he came back on after treatment Andy whacked him again in exactly the same place. When we equalised Goodison shook to its foundations. That was what it was like to be an evertonian competing with and beating the big boys cause we where one of them. Let's hope those times come back.

So far this season:

Drew a game at the Emirates that we controlled and smashed them at our place.
Narrowly beat Chelsea at Goodison and were narrowly (and unjustly) beaten at Stamford Bridge.
Unlucky to concede a late equaliser in the Goodison derby. We had a shadow side out at Anfield.
Beat United at Old Trafford.
Without Barry at the Etihad and a touch unfortunate to lose, where many other sides have been hammered.

We're definitely developing a big game mentality and I don't see why we can't beat United and City when they come to Goodison.
